I recently bought my 2002 bird and i notice a whirring noise coming from the rear which increases with speed. not a whine or pinion noise. I have not ridden in another bird and so i don't know if the noise is normal tire noise or not.I only notice it with the top up.It goes away if i turn up the radio(LOL) I hear a lot of talk about bad wheel bearings and cv joints. Is your bird very quiet at speed with the top up , or do you hear considerable tire noise? Thanks Randy

Re: Tire noise ?
Hi Randy, You are not alone, when I got my '02 last fall I was a little suprised at the amount of road noise from the rear but suspect it is just the lack of sound proofing around the roof well. Even with the hardtop on with its deck and the softtop filling the hole it's not much different.
Compared to my '82 LeBaron convertible's road and wind noise, its nothing, but it is definitely noticible after driving the Cadillac.
Solution is the speed variable volume control on the radio (if you have not found it yet).!!!!

It may have been BS but it sounded reasonable to me.

Re: Tire noise ?
The county did a chip seal on a local "fast" county road last summer. It's so noisy, we can hear the traffic (which is fairly light) over a mile away from the road. It makes it difficult to hear a cell phone conversation, too, when you're driving over it.Limited Edition databases for 007 msg..#26 , PCR sticky, and Cashmere msg.#64

Re: Tire noise ?
Hi there,
Since we got our 2003 last December, I have not noticed any tyre noise at all. The sound does vary from surface to surface but compared to our main driver, an Infiniti FX, our T-bird is a lot smoother and more quiet ride.
All the best, Gordon.

Re: Tire noise ?
Road noise, what road noise; I simply remove my heaing aids and turn up the radio. Just kidding. I have the stock tires on my 03 and the road noise is more pronounced with the hardtop off the car. Several of my friends have other ragtops and also complain about the road noise. If you find a fix, let us know.
Have a great day,
Jim (jettbird)
