  • burl wood dash kit

I am thinking about getting the burl wood dash kit. Prices range from$109 on Ebay to over $200 on "concepts. Is there much difference in quality of the different brands or all about the same? Anybody with any good or bad experiences to share? Thanks , Thatch

I installed mine in 2003. It is not hard to do, but take your time in lining up each piece because the 3M adhesive is a one time thing. The most critical piece to me was the small one around the a/c heater fan switch. If it's not centered exactly it will bindup and require toggleing back and forth.

One thing to consider as well is if you ever have to have your radio/tape player worked on, those pieces have to come off. See if you can get extra pieces. I didn't and the polished aluminum set is no longer made. You won't be disapointed with the results. Ford really dropped the ball on interior appointments in my opinon.

I've gone the wood route several times in the past. This time, I've got the light sand package and I'm not about to cover up the bronze bits. Y'all should of got the good looking interior to begin with.

the dash kits from superior dash, (thunderbird concepts carries this company) are cut a bit larger to cover center stack more completly they go from side to side, other brands just cover the flat part of center stack. I have a pic of superior dash kit on my gallery.

Yes. Superior Dash is one of the BEST. Also look to Woodview. Canadian Company, with great service, if you ever need a replacement piece. Aaron also carries these.

Caution on the ebay ones. Check out the manufacturer before hitting the "Buy" button!!

                    Re: burl wood dash kit

I purchased 2 kits last month, both called dark burl wood. An inexpensive one made by BD trims $115 and one by B & I. $174. I wanted to see the difference between the two. The material from which the kits are made look identical. Though the B & I kit is coated with polyurethane and the other with epoxy. The main difference was in the way the pieces were cut. The B & I was more precise. I put on the dark burl wood kit from B & I last saturday. i'll return the BD.

I'm really a sucker for wood trim in cars and I really like the look of the trim in the tbird. my wife likes it also. I think it dresses the interior up. I realize that adding a trim package is really a personal/individual thing. Some wouldn't change the interior for anything. And that's great. I love wood. I used to build guitars and fell in love with wood grain. Even though the kit is not real wood it's still pretty.

The Superior kit from T'concepts looks very high quality and the long center/shift console piece is very nice. Also their price beats all the other suppliers for the same product, It just didn't have some pieces that the B & I kit had. Plus I wasn't sure how much I would like the look over time and I didn't want to spend that much money not knowing.

Check the drawings out on the various packages. (center console and the area around the shifter). The select shift versus the standard etc. (superior doesn't have the piece that goes around the shifter. I wanted that one.)
2002 is a little different also.

I hope this helps some. If you want more specific answers feel free to PM me.

This is where I purchased the kits. I give both sites thumbs up. Notice the shift area on the BD kit. It's for an '02 or non SS shift.
Free shipping with the B & I. Plus you have the option of a smaller kit.

I like the metallic accents best. Do they complement the existing metal?

Dave -- I agree. Originally, I had somewhat started to be wedded to the idea of the burl finishes -- but the metal seems to really pickup with the existing metal in the dash now that I see more photos. Of course, by the time I do this -- I will have likely changed my mind several times.
