My 2003 T-bird is in the shop now, it needs a new pcm and the Ford dealer has told me there is not available anywhere and there is not a ship date available from the vendor. Any ideas.

Check NAPA as they stock PCM's for a lot of makes & models.

      Re: pcm problem

If unable to get one thru another supplier, keep after your Ford dealer. The vendor is probably just waiting for enough orders to make it feasible to make another batch. Meanwhile, we suffer.

If I find one at another vendor will Ford get it from them and cover it under the warranty.

I was lucky when mine went ,it took two days BTW they gave me a loaner ,paid the towing(at least I was never charged) and the PCM is under a 100K warranty recall so no charge to me.Happened about 2 1/2 yrs. ago.

Any more info on this? I have no PCM problem but I would like to have the recall info handy if I ever need it. I do not trust the dealers tell me about these recalls.

My L/M service person told me as soon as they did a test on it. She was the one to tell me there is a replacement on them. When it was done the service manager came over and asked if it was a re-program .She said no it was defective and was being replaced under Ford warranty and he agreed.

Another T Birder is frustrated with this problem. He has an 03, and the Ford dealer in Palm Bay, FL is unable to get him a replacement part for his defective PCM. FORD has acknowledged that it is covered under warranty. He has been waiting for TEN WEEKS. Keeps getting the same response: "Arrival date of part is TO BE DETERMINED". Needless to say, he is at his wits end.

I would hope he will have a complimentary and comparable rental for that entire time.

Just did a quick check and found a PCM for a 2003 at autocomputer systems P/N R9803FTHU01 price $199.00. Looks like extended warranties
not worth much if you can't get parts.

An engine control unit (ECU), also known as power-train control module (PCM), or engine control module (ECM) is a type of electronic control unit that determines the amount of fuel, ignition timing and other parameters an internal combustion engine needs to keep running. It does this by reading values from multidimensional performance maps (so called LUTs), using input values (e.g. engine speed) calculated from signals coming from sensor devices monitoring the engine.
