Here is a Poll for Cell Phone Usage while driving a car. I see by the comments on the other thread that people have many different opinions on the use of these. It's a blind poll so your vote is private.

Re: Cell Phones: Legal or Not
Maybe we're taking the wrong approach here and painting everybody with the same brush.
I'm on the road a lot and I get a lot of phone calls.....rarely are they simple, "Hi, how ya doin'" or "I'm on my way". My business is my car and my phone. (I even had those huge ones that needed to be installed in the car back in the '80's) I need to pull over or let it go to vm until I can pull over......even with bluetooth. When I get calls from clients or lawyers, I need to be 100% in the conversation.
It's not what I have in my hand or not, it's what's on my mind.
For others, it probably is no problem at all, just mindless chit chat.
Wonder if there are any statistics as to who are the most dangerous on the cells.
I'm betting teenage girls and mothers based on my observations.

Re: Cell Phones: Legal or Not
I agree with Jim. It's not just cell phones - In general I find people are way too preoccupied with other activities - eating, putting on makeup, reading, changing clothes, watching TV - I've seen it all.Do you know the difference between education and experience?
Education is when you read the fine print; experience is what you get when you don't.

Re: Cell Phones: Legal or Not
I used to think it was perfectly okay until I nearly bought the back end of a new Mercedes 600 series sedan when driving my ole 97 Sebring convertible a couple of years ago. I was talking away and looked up: The MB I was following at 40 mph previously was at a complete stop. If the other lane had not been empty I would have slammed into the back of it. So, No Cell Phone for Joe while Driving.sigpicSoaring with My Raven Under Carolina Blue Skies ...

Re: Cell Phones: Legal or Not
I drive a lot... I do a lot of business on the cell phone. I have also been rear-ended twice by cell phone users.
That said, I do not believe they should be illegal. It's already illegal to drive recklessly, and people who cause wrecks because of their distractions should be charged with reckless driving, pay the fines and absorb costs for the damage they cause. The law is already there, as is the precidence.
In my seldom-humble opinion, if cell phone use is to be illegal while driving, then so should CD players, radios, tape players, smoking, drinking, eating etc.
There are enough laws already.

Hammer55 - Please don't take away my SIRIUS RADIO - especially channel # 5 Clasic 50's Rock & Roll - the music that will never die....
Now back to drivers using cell phones - this morining I set through two left hand turn signals at a busy four lane highway (for your local people that was at the intersection of Pricent Line & Mid Cities Blvd.) because the lady in front of me was on the cell phone and not paying attention to the left turn signal . So she and I and approximately 5 other cars behind me set throuth two signals before she got off the phone. People behind me were honking their horns....I just stayed calm by saying the Rosary.

Re: Cell Phones: Legal or Not
I used to be an impatient driver, from college 'til about my 50th birthday . About that time I really mellowed out, and as my sister always told me, "Don't sweat the small stuff."
It's funny though, my wife gets less patient every year. She's always saying "Honk at that driver!" I just smile and go with the flow. Beside, in these days of road rage, you can never be sure the other driver won't do something stupid, or even violent.Vin 2462 / Seq 2296
