  • Number of Miles You've Driven Your Bird in One Day

Thought we would take a poll to see what kind of miles folks have driven in their bird during a one day period of time. Lets find out who the marathon drivers are out there.

I'll start with two different trips back from Johnson City, Tennessee to Tahlequah, Oklahoma which were about 875 miles.

Also made it home from Destin, Florida in one day, which is a trip of about 820 miles.

My drive home from Heartland Thunder, Tulsa, Oklahoma to Atlanta, Georgia, approximately 815 miles, about 13 hours.
(I did get a little time away from the wheel, an opportunity arose where one of Alabama's finest invited me and my buddy Stan Walker to sit in the back seat of his police car, while he proceeded to write us both out a speeding ticket. That made an already long 13 hour drive even longer and turned it into a 14 hour trip. I don't recommend it, way too many miles and hours to drive in one day!)

We have made a few trips in the Bird from York, PA. to Sebring FL. That's 17 to 18 hours of driving and between 1,000 and 1,100 miles. I'm just a driving fool.

I guess from Long Island to New Hampshire was the longest.

Could it be that you're just a driving fool because the Bird is soooo much fun to drive?

Re: Number of Miles You've Driven Your Bird in One Day

The most miles in one stint was driving home from Johnson City, TN. after Thunder Fever. The Sugar's (Kim and Jerry) accompanied me as far as Nashville, TN. I came on in to Dallas alone.
              950 mi.

Followed the Sixpac's from ThunderIsle, Lake Lanier, GA to thier home in Madison, MS. Planned to stay the night, but it seemed too early to stop driving, so chose to drive on home. This could have been after Pappacito's, or both...I've slept since then
              830 mi

Last year I attended Honky-Tonking in Nashville,
              675 mi.
then drove on up to Louisville, KY to visit my niece for a couple of days. Drove straight back to Dallas (alone) stopping for an oil change in Jackson, TN.
              850 mi.

In 2002, my friend, Brenda, accompanied me to
Destination 2002 in SanDestin, FL. I drove home, stopping by
2 Elks Lodges on the coast in MS.
              800 mi.

Followed Dot and George home from Redneck Riviera,
              from Orange Beach, AL
              700 mi

Fayetteville, GA to Norfolk, VA. I was on the dock to see my son leave for his first seven months of duty at Sea. Up one day back the next.

From Raleigh to Northern PA to pick up the Platinum Silver Top .... Roughly 1175 miles round trip. I believe we put 550 + miles on The Raven on the day we drove up.

Okay Dot, you're in an elite group of three. It's really at least four, cuz Vickie (Dizzbe) rolled straight home from ThunderFever, too.

                      What's your story?

That will be a day you won't soon forget, I'm sure. You'll be feeling it after about 700 miles.

It will be great to see you again in Memphis - drive carefully!

We're ALL looking forward to seeing you in Memphis! And we'll be trying to talk you out of driving straight home. Take an extra day...you'll be glad you did!

Paul, says after 700 mi. you'll be feeling it, and I agree. It's tough on me from Dallas to Nashville in one day. About 675 mi.

I'm the most comfortable with about 500 mi, and prefer to stop several times for about 20 min. Favorite stop: Cracker Barrel! I'm always sure to check for anything Thunderbird related.

Sally - you have a good memory. Yup - 1050 miles in one day. Hadn't planned on it, but thunderstorms and tornados were behind me half the way and I wanted to keep it that way. Didn't get hit with the bad stuff until 50 miles out of Omaha - in the middle of nowhere. No place to pull off the interstate for cover and of course I was tired. Long final hour - but I made it. It was one of the few times the bird has been in the rain, just glad I could only see those funnel clouds and hail & not experience them.

wow ladies, I'm impressed. My longest drive was from Half Moon Bay, CA to Las Vegas. I had three in the car...me, the tunes and my lil 38.
it was the best drive in I've ever had.
                              thanks for the memories.....great poll.
