I would have given you our '78! Tranny died (ground to a pulp - lots of little metal pieces in the trans fluid) at 14K miles. Carb replaced at 18K miles. Fuel pump replaced at 19K miles...and on and on... Traded it in on a brand new '83 T-Bird Heritage - that one was worse...

The first generation will always be the best in my book. That's when I fell in love with T-Birds. It was some time in late '54 or early '55 when I saw a beautiful new Bird, and told my dad "That's what we should get" - and he told me we couldn't because it only seats 2, and we were a family of 4. I told him, "But Momma and Pam (my sister) don't like cars like you & I do, so they can stay home"!

ditto with my parents - it didn't hold enough - they were after a station wagon for their next car.

well, i have a 96 and i really like the body style of these cars. mom bought a 66 new in 66 that we still have. i love that style too, but if i had to choose, id pick the 61-63 with 63 being the best, the doors in 61 and 62 are way to big and flat, i like the body line in the 63.

I had a 96 that I took to 124,000 miles and decided to trade it in on a 05 SuperCrew. One of the best automobiles I have ever owned.......till the 2002..........

The best was the 55-57 or we would not be here.
I have owned a 58, 63,64,76 out of those i loved the 64 the most. All white with solid white interior.

The county 911 service changed our address yesterday. It's now 390. I told George we need a Thunderbird with a 390 - and he said ah, M code, and big grin on his face. Alas, it'll only be a pipedream for years - we just don't need any more cars.

Loved the little birds ever since I saw my first one. Purchased mine in 1991, right before I got married and had it for about 8 years.

Still have a soft spot for my '89 Super Coupe (loved the Super Coupes from
'89 to '95 but indifferent on the standard models).

I would have to say the 64-66 t-birds, known as the Flairbirds. Especially like the convertibles, this was also the last of the convertibles to be produced until the retro birds.

I voted for the 55-57, but I have a special place in my heart for the 1977. That was the first new car that I ever ordered from the factory. The 77 was also considerably less expensive than the 76 bird because Ford shortened them and put them on the same frame as the Torino (sp?). We traded a 75 Ford Elite in for the T-bird.

What made it really special was that it arrived on Christmas eve. The dealership called me at work and asked if I would like to pick it up that day (they weren't busy in service) or if I wanted to wait until after Christmas. We agreed that we wanted it that day, so they got it ready. It was just a like a big Christmas present. On Christmas morning, we drove it to the inlaws house taking the longest route possible to get there. It was Dove Gray in color with a crushed velvet dove gray interior. It was probably one of the most beautiful cars that I have ever owned. I subsequently traded it a couple of years later on a new Cadillac which we still own.

I wish we still had the 77 and I still occasionally look for them on Ebay. I see very few of them any more, the quality just wasn't there. I must admit, we did have some issues with ours, that's why we traded it for the Caddy.

My favorite was the 64-65 Birds. I always associated them with the James Bond era even though I never remember him driving one in the movies. I do think that Felix Lighter of the CIA drove one in Goldfinger?

Previously in this thread Dot mentioned that she owned a 56 Mark II. To me, the Mark II was the classiest vehicle Ford ever produced. It is my understanding that this was another outstanding automobile that Ford stopped making because they didn't sell enough of them. At the time, I think the new sales price was $9000 or so. That was really steep at the time. But what a great looking set of wheels.

My 1st car was a 63, and I did love it. My second was a 65. It was a far more enjoyable drive. It handled better (especially with positraction and front disc brakes), was more comfortable, and you just couldn't beat that flow through ventilation when you moved the lever and that big vent opened along the base of the rear window.

That Silent Flow ventilation was cool, as was the entire dashboard and aircraft style chrome levers for the climate control. The Swing-Away steering wheel, and front fender mounted turn signal lights, and sequential rear turn signals on the '65 and '66 were also very cool.
