Re: What is your favorite generation prior to 2002
reason: 1955 thru 1957 were real sport cars. Every kids dream who grew up in the 50's,60's, and early 70's. Stick shift, hard tops with portholes, fast engines, TWO SEATS! Real "Chick Magnets". Mustangs came in('64) and were a poor man's early BIRD, but we kids knew they were'nt really Birds. Guys wanted to be Kookie Burns and gals aspired to be Connie Stevens (of SURF SIDE SIX) cruisin' in the Early Birds.

Bird is the word..... Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats. H. L. Mencken US editor (1880 - 1956)

That is a good looking Bird Rusty. You need to open up your wallet and let the moths out 'cause you only go around once.
BTW, I have alway be and will always be a fan of the '57 Bird.
Re: What is your favorite generation prior to 2002
Have loved the bay-birds since childhood. Had plastic toy baby-birds (one was actually black with red interior, which is why I sought after a black with full red trim).
In my childhood neighborhood was a white babybird in a garage, that sat for years collecting dust. The story I was told was that the owner was possibly in the military during the Viet-Nam era, and his parents were keeping it for him. My dream was to get that car and fix it up when I was able to drive. Of course it was gone by then.
Besides the babybird, my next favorite era was the 73-76 Big Bird (never fond of the 72 grille). Loved my robin's egg blue '73, but always wanted a cream and gold '76 model.
3rd in line would be the flair-birds, 64-66. Verrrrry nice looking cars.

When my dad first met my stepmom she owned a '66 Town Landau. To me it was the coolest car. I especially loved the sequential taillights and the overhead "console" with the hazard flasher, door ajar, etc buttons. I had never seen anything like it. I also loved the S bar on the vinyl roof. After they married, my mom also had a '69 Landau and a '72 with the Glamour paint (special ordered). From that point on I've been hooked for life!

How can I choose? I sit here looking at the row of promo's dating back to the red '57 that I got when I was 3 y/o; remembering when I tried to talk my practical dad into ordering a '59 square bird rather than the Galaxie 500 that we ended up with; salivating over the new '63 Sports Roadster with Kelsey Hayes wire wheels (and don't forget the swing-away steering wheel); thinking that the '64 was the most beautiful car I had ever seen until the '65 came out with sequential turn signals; trying to buy a well-worn '56 when I was 17 y/o (it's a good thing that didn't work out). Those were the years that the T-bird was truly "unique in all the world" until we returned to a piece of the past in 2002.
Re: What is your favorite generation prior to 2002
You already know what is absolutely the most difficult thing to do--don't you? It is to pick a favorite generation of the Thunderbird. But, for me, it is a single year's model: the 1956 Thunderbird. It is indeed a classic design that looks as good today as it did 53 years ago.
2010 Explorer Limited Edition, tri color white, camel interior
2003 TBird black/saddle
1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL conv't turq/black
2004 Lincoln LS 8 Sport light tundra metallic/medium stone
