Hello friends and diecast collectors, here is something I wanted doing for a long time. It concerns filling the gap of all missing colors in diecast never issued in scale 1:18.
Well here is the story:
Some of you know I am a frequent visitor of e-Bay and on one of my search missions I stumbled across a so desired VMG model by Beanstalk. It had a buy it now price I could not let it lay around for so I bought it on the spot. A day later same seller had one for sale again for the same offering and bought that also. An hour later it was there again and thought what the heck...? So I decided to contact seller to make inquiries on how much he had. It seemed he had a lot of 180 VMG new-in-the-box Beanstalk models.
Could not believe my ears. It was the opportunity I looked for, so I made my plan and decided to buy the lot.
I then had 144 of the lot shipped from Detroit to NL and left 36 in the US. Those are the ones that Skip helped me out in selling to some of you. Some are still for sale btw..
It took almost two months before the lot arrived in NL and was cleared via customs. But last monday they finally arrived and are safe and unharmed in my storage room (see picture 1).
My plan is to repaint the VMG's into the missing colors and I want them to be a perfect match with the real car. I know the original paint can be bought in the US in small aerosols, but since it is not allowed to ship those abroad I had to find another solution. Besides that, repainting a number like this is not something you do in the spare time and weekends so I contacted a professional car paint shop nearby. Well, it took a while and some effort, but the paintshop got the original paint recepies from Ford US/Dupont and we now can match any of the issued Thunderbird colors.
The models will be taken apart by me, sanded, spray painted at professional level with color in three layers, clearcoated by paintshop, and then put together again by me. The interiors will be done in black or in color schemes on request according the factory programm. Decals and scripts will be placed in between the paint and clearcoat layer. I can put chrome hoodscoops on, but cannot do other wheels.
To test the paint I have done one sample in Inca Gold and it looks perfect. The color even turns greenish when the light goes more dim during the evening. Model is not complete yet since the marker lights and scripts are missing on this one. I placed it next to the yellow model from Maisto to see the difference. I have to make a remark that the Inca Gold is a very difficult color to capture on photo. In real it looks absolutely stunning. All repaints will have this level of quality and in fact they look better then the original Beanstalk models.
My plan is to make a limited series of 10/15 models per color in Inca Gold (SOLD OUT), Cashmere (SOLD OUT), PCR (SOLD OUT), Platinum Silver (SOLD OUT), Bronze, Light Ice Blue, Medium Steel Blue (SOLD OUT) and Merlot (SOLD OUT) (since that last one is so desired). That makes 8 x 15 = 120. The other 24 will be added to the color that is most wanted or whenever a limit is reached. The PCR is most difficult since it has two color scheme and a special interior that will be done as close as possible to the real car.
Price per car is $150 ex shipping. Cars will be repacked in the original Beanstalk box and shipped direct from me to buyers. Shipping is $30 anywhere in US and or Canada. I know it is not cheap, but believe me it takes a lot of cost, time and effort to pull this of and do it well.

Since painting is the most expensive part and needs to be done per 10/15 cars in one go I cannot paint the lot and prefinance cost. My plan is to do color by color whenever I have orders for 10. I will post a poll to this thread with the colors I plan to do and see how much interest there is.
Last but not least. It was never my intention to cross Dino's plans and we both agreed to go forward with this anyway. It is just a rare coincidense we both are planning the same thing at the same time.
