And Question #2. Why mess with the rarer Beanstalks? Especially when there are so many Maisto's out there to work with???????
The Beanstalk is rare indeed, specially the VMG. That is why I kept 36 unharmed and sold those via TBN. To keep them even more rare I decided to repaint the remaining 140 . Besides that, the Beanstalk is the better mold compared to the Maisto. Rear quarter panel has correct lining, it has the hoodscoop detail in place, interior is correct compared to real car (see safety belts, cupholder, etc), wheels have correct nr of spokes, third brake light is better looking. And besides that there are some details regarding taking the cars apart and rebuilding that makes the Beanstalk a better donor.
But also it is because I found a lot of Beanstalks. If it would have been Maisto's I would have had those
Thanks Dot. I figured it was written in the beginning , but I had just taken a break from working in the garage and had slight humidity exhaustion. So if I find 1:18 Beanstalk diecast in black with a black top then I can use that top as a replacement for an Inca top?
Question for the experts: Can the maisto Hardtops be modified to fit the Beanstalks?? If so, I have some that I can donate to you.
And Question #2. Why mess with the rarer Beanstalks? Especially when there are so many Maisto's out there to work with???????
Question #1:
Great question Dave. Unfortunately, I just spent a half hour looking into this and I cannot see it working to have it look like it belongs there. I took a Beanstalk car and modified the top mounting holes to mate to a Maisto top. This requires drilling new holes in the rear shelf (easy) and drilling holes in the sun visors (not as easy). The biggest issue is that the windshield headers are molded differtly between the two makes, so you cannot get a Maisto top so "seat" correctly at the BS header, even with having the holes in the visors for the locating pins on the Maisto top. Perhaps someone else can see a way to do this without having to butcher the windshield header.
If someone needs a white top on their car, just remember that the 007 version with the white top is a Beanstalk model, thought it's a hard model to find now, too.
