Just a thought, depreciation is a cost that we rarely consider but it is real. It also is far greater than extended warranty protection but offers nothing in return. One substantial repair to one of the more expensive systems on a Thunderbird can cost several hundred and as much as several thousand dollars. I would prefer no major repairs and trouble free ownership, I know the warranty won't guarantee that, but if the car runs perfectly I'm still a WINNER.

Just got off the phone with Lou; this time for Moondoggie. Total time on the phone: 6 minutes! Peace of mind is priceless (and the price was right, too)!

        Thanks, Lou!

That's the thing about an ESP. You're sure glad you have it when something goes wrong, especially engine, transmission or electronics. Thanks for mentioning it.

I'd like to add my 2 cents here. Rcvd letter from Ford with ESP plans and I couldnt make up my mind. Saw all the chat/info on TBN, called Lou and ordered ESP for my 2002 T-bird blue with 55k (bought new in 03) Have paid good money for repairs...valve cover leak, 2 bad coils, cracked bottle in cooling system overflow. Whats next? ESP...no worries, and saved $$$ thru LOU. Thanks

When I bought my 2004 bird in '08 she had 34,000 miles. I bought the extended warranty and never regretted it. Majority of repairs done has been for COPS, but peace of mind knowing that I had the coverage should the problem NOT be the coils was well worth it, although I think I have at the very least broken even. With over 64k miles on her, plus the fact that I use her as a daily driver, I knew I wanted to buy another ESP. Others on this site recommended Lou, who was super helpful and got me for another three years. Highly recommend!

And this is why TBNest members who encounter repair issues are happy they have Ford's Premium Care ESP.

Just purchased my warranty today form Lou, it is just worth the peace of mind. You hope for the best, expect the worst. These cars may be Garage Queens but very expensive to repair.
I rather be safe than sorry.

Here's my take on ESP's (and any other extended maintenance plan).

It's a money maker for Ford.

Ford would not offer an ESP if they were going to spend more on claims than they took in. As a businessman, would you? Absolutely not.

The poll shows that one out of four gets more back in insured expenses than the money they've spent on an ESP. Great. That means that three out of four broke even or DID NOT GET BACK THEIR ESP MONEY.

                          Peace of mind?

The odds are in your favor that if you took your ESP money, placed it into a savings account, and took it out as you needed it for repairs, three out of four would not have to put money into the account over the life of the ESP.

But, your car, your money, you do what is right for you. I'll play the odds.

But, if I choose wrong...well, I look at my house and my family's health, and the catastrophic expenses that could incur pending a disaster. Therefore, I choose insurance.

But, unanticipated expenses for my TBird?

A pain in the butt, but not lifestyle altering.

Now compound the cost of warranties for mult-car families
and for each new cycle of buying vehicles
and you will have a tidy sum to draw from.

Extended my ESP warranty with Lou today for 3 yrs 24,000 miles. Got a good deal and great service from Lou. I don't usually buy extended service contracts on my cars, but the repairs on the Tbird seem to me as expensive as those on luxury cars like Audi and BMW.The Tbirds seem to have quite a few problems - a new one seems to pop-up every day on this board. Some are rather minor, but some are expensive with some parts hard to get. I hope having ESP gives some leverage. The cost of the warranty per year is very reasonable in my opinion. I look at the warranty like I look at insurance. It is for "peace of mind", and I will be happy if I don't use it.

                              Thanks, Lou

In May, 2006, I purchased a 36 month ESP on my 2003. For my investment, I received .........one free jump start!

In a few weeks, another three years will have passed, this time without an ESP. During that period, zero dollars spent on the car other than regular maintenance items.

I'm sure that the low repair costs are due to the car's low mileage (20,000 miles), but I took that, and the TBN poll results, into account when considering whether or not to buy another ESP.

So, no ESP, and I still have peace of mind.

If my luck should change, and repair costs become an issue, then, it may be time to sell.

Actually, I'm starting to get pressured from my better half as to why we need two toys in our garage. She's absolutely right, and I'm starting to run out of excuses.

I've been dumping money into the 64 Galaxie (new motor/new interior), but should the TBird start incurring ridiculous repair costs, and, make no mistake, an ESP is a cost, one has to go, and it ain't going to be my Gal.
