Re: Has Your Extended Warranty Been Worth the Cost?

A warranty is insurance and you buy it hoping you don't need it. I was at my local Ford dealer today inquiring about having my transmission serviced and the service advisor asked me if I bought the extended warranty when I bought the car. I told him yes and he said best money I ever spent as they can get real expensive.quick. They quoted me $145.00 for service and another local Ford dealer wanted 169. for same thing.

Memory fading but we used the warranty that came with the 02 when new and bought the extended warranty a couple of years later. Used it too. Mileage killed both warranties early. Only costs since have been maintenence and cops (both kinds)
With the 05, only warranty repairs were made while under it's basic warranty. Bought the extended warranty which it's still living under and so far, looks like we won't need it. We might get the used car warranty though when the extended one is thru.

If you extend an extended warranty before it expires, you don't have to pay to have the car inspected by the Ford dealer. I think that's running about $125.00 now. FYI Leroy

Depends on the dealer. My Lincoln dealer did my ESP inspection on the 05 Bird included it with his regular charge for a oil change. They have been a very good dealer to do business with.

Worth every penny despite not using it yet (I'm one year in..... with 3 more years left to go).

I'm truly playing this one from both sides.

I have no extended warranty on the '02. It's been trouble free (knock on wood)....... and never once given me reason to worry.

            The '04 how-ever?

Not-so-much. Lost a coil and I experienced some transmission problems.......after having all this taken care of it occurred to me that this car just doesn't inspire the same level of confidence the '02 does.

So it really was all about the piece of mind. This really was 4 years of inexpensive coverage vs the average repair bill. It was well well worth it. I really didn't want to spend the next 4 years wondering if this car was worth keeping or a big problem getting ready to happen and looking to make me regret even owning it.

Only having the car for a little over a year and doing what i can myself regardless of whar the extended warranty covers i'm glad i have it.

The only thing that my ESP covered was a toasted fuel pump. All the other service issues were post coverage.

My extended warranty is about to expire, what kind of price should I expect to get another? I know the first one has paid for itself over and above the cost.

No, Lou can't help. Unless you have a northern address........etc.

Florida has a law that these service contracts cannot be discounted.

Just curious....What if I purchase a discounted extended warranty in Louisiana and move to Florida the day after it goes into effect? Does Florida void my warranty? If I would then go to a Florida Ford dealer for warranty service would they refuse to service me under the Ford warranty? Why is it any concern to the state of Florida if Ford is willing to sell its warranties at a discount to its residents? Just curious.

I was wondering about this as well, Roger. How can Florida control what people buy out of state?

I can see how they might control businesses in their state, but not those outside their state or what individuals buy from outside their state.

Who is Florida "protecting" with this strange law?

This whole situation is very wierd.

I think the answer is the auto dealers because of the large profits they make from these warranties.
