        I think warranties may come under insurance. That's why the cost is so high for health insurance too.

          Can anyone in Florida answer this multi-point question?:

          If I live in Florida and attempt to purchase an extended warranty from an out-of-state Ford dealer in Illinois or Maine or California etc., can the State of Florida prevent these Ford dealers from selling me the warranty. If not, and I purchase the warranty, will a Florida Ford dealer refuse to repair my car under the warranty? If Florida dealer does service my car under this warranty how will the State of Florida punish the Florida Ford dealer and me?

          We have already heard the line: "Florida is just doing this to protect the consumer" That really doesn't fly in my opinion. If it were true this practice would be more widely used throughout the country.

            I'll try and answer some of these.
            ESP is not insurance.
            ESP is not an extended warranty. Warrantees are by definition, free.
            ESP is a service contract and falls under the laws for service contracts.


            Florida Ford Dealers will, like any Ford Dealer, honor an ESP no matter where it was purchased, no matter what you paid for it, and no matter where you live.

            As to a person who lives in Florida buying an ESP from some dealer in Illinois fpr a discount, obviously, .........I don't know.
            I know that Lou wouldn't do it.
            Of course, I suppose I could have lied and had the ESP contract mailed to my nieces house in NJ...... Don't know if I would have had to produce a copy of a drivers license....

            But Lou has principles and I don't lie.

              I'm making an assumption here (please correct if it is wrong), but I believe the service contract would be between the purchaser and Ford - not the specific dealership offering the sale. If so, then ...
              a) if a dealership sold to a Florida resident at discount, Ford could potentially be in violation of the Florida state laws and liable for fines, and
              b) if you provided false information on your residency, you would be liable and/or Ford could invalidate the service contract.

                Egads, people!

                Lou offers a service to those who want to avail themselves of it.

                I am sure that if he can sell an ESP to someone, he will and if he can't he won't!

                This is a good deal for us and I would caution anyone not to make "noise" about it so that it winds up that He can't help us again!

                And by the way, my ESP has been worth every penny!

                These are complex cars and there is not much that an old "shade tree" mechanic like me can do on them any more. I had my transmission rebuilt on my car last year and it cost me $100. Without the ESP, I am sure that it would have cost well over $2,000.

                When the time comes to renew my ESP in August of this year, I will be contacting Lou to see if he can assist me.

                  Dean - I don't think anyone is questioning Lou's support (I can attest to it being great), but rather they are trying to understand why a Florida purchase has a different set of rules. It has nothing to do with Lou (or Ford), but rather the state (or to be more specific, their lawmakers?).

                  I also plan to contact Lou in 3 years to get a 4 year renewal for my ESP which he sold me this last year. He's top-notch!!

                    I suspect that it has a lot to do with the purchaser, and what he says to his Florida dealer when shopping for a plan.
                    As a Floridan, last summer I bought a reduced rate Premium plan from Lou without any hanky panky, and my local dealer honors it.
                    Any one, anywhere, should talk to Lou before going any further...

                      I'm hearing a clunking in my retro when I turn the wheel. (I have the extended warranty on the TBird.)

                      But, this is a really high mileage car (18,000 miles on a 2003) (LOL). (Funny, my LS required a steering rack change at 17,575.)

                      Must just be a coincidence, or a result of all the constant off roading I do in suburban NJ, or sitting too long in the nasty northeast winters in a heated garage.

                      I like this car, but it's a mechanic's $$$ dream.

                      So, tell me again how CR is anti Ford/TBird/LS?

                      (Please, no "sell her if you aren't happy" posts. I'm retired. A new car is not on my "bucket list".)

                      But, until I take her to the dealer for a look-see, I'll assume it's my imagination.

                        During my trip to Papacito's (Atlanta, GA) CARTOY had a "Clunk" when I made left turns. I cut my trip short, and returned to Dallas.

                        The Dealership had rotated my tires prior to the trip, and I don't think they used a 100 lb. torque stick when re-mounting the wheels. After consulting Joe Varey, I asked that they torque all the lug nuts using the torque stick.
                        I never heard the "clunk" again.

                          My evaluation of these "Extended Warranties", whether for TVs or automobiles, is that they represent an insurance policy that one pay for, and takes out, as a sort of a "risk reduction" against future cash outlays for repairs. You are betting that the vehicle will need more costly repairs over that time period, and the insurance Co. is betting that it will require less costly repairs than the price of policy. This spreads the cost risk over many individuals, and the company has set the cost of the policy high enough that they will win. That is the reason I never buy one, and so far I am many dollars ahead. For persons wishing to limit risk, they may be ok, but all too often, they are worded so you have to fight with them to get them to pay.

                            Bill - Not disagreeing with anything you said, but doesn't the same thing apply to life, health, and car insurance? Those companies also set the cost high enough that they will win. But my guess is that you have bought those ...
                            (and dealing with health insurance providers is almost always a fight)

                              I hope no one has to endure the incovenience of an open-hood exploratory surgery or repair to his/her TBird. When and if it does happen, however, those who have the FORD Premium Care ESP will be happy they do. Our beloved TBird is not like the washer/dryer we can just throw on the curb when it goes on the blink.

                              BTW, to everyone. I am getting many, many calls on the FORD ESP. I have set up 9 this month already.

                              It is typically best to call me on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. If I don't reply within an hour or two I am out of office, with guests or some other reason. I will, however, reply to all inquiries and it is BEST to phone me.

                                Right on all counts. I tell customers in my office that this is a "service plan," not a "warranty" because you have to buy Ford's ESP. I have to use the term "service plan," and be clear about it to guests. Although most everyone does use the term "extended warranty" and understand that it won't be free.
