Re: Has Your Extended Warranty Been Worth the Cost?

Protecting yourself financially against a major cash outlay is not insurance? Then what is it?

I have health insurance. My insurance company pays my doctors instead of me having to pay them.

An ESP is a plan whereby the payer (or insurer) pays the dealership instead of me paying the dealership.

    What's the difference?

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's an insurance policy.

Your "service plan" doesn't provide any free service maintenance, does it? What service do I get in the event that nothing goes wrong with my car during the ESP?

Imartun, you don't ever want to try to disuss your "not an insurance plan" argument with me in your office.

And, don't think for one minute that the cost of a factory warranty hasn't somehow been factored into the original vehicle price.

I just got an extended warranty through Lou (lmartun, see his post above), and I am very happy. Went and got a used vehicle inspection first, and it passed with flying colors (that's what I get for not getting the ESP when I bought my T-Bird, instead of the lesser warranty that I did purchase). Lou's price was much better than the prices that I was quoted in the D.C. area, and he truly is a T-Bird lover who treats other T-Bird lovers right!

I have an 03, bought it new and then got extended coverage. Replaced transmission, COPS (8), Alternator, PCM, all at the same time, all under coverage. $100.00 versus lets see, 1800 for COPS, 3500 for tranny, ? for alternator and ? for PCM. What would I have done without my ESP!. I basically have a brand new car (I hope) but whatever comes next, I am covered. I love my car and the looks that it gets, PRICELESS!

My ESP will be expiring in 2012, and Lou will be my first call.

Well, to be straight about it, the COPS would be covered under the 100,000 mile/10 year warranty for 2003-2005 T-Birds, whether or not you have an ESP. But the other stuff definitely would not have been covered, so you were smart to have the ESP.

Take a look at the long thread regarding the PCM Powertrain Control Module in our Birds.

Doesn't look like the ESP or any other type service contract is going to help, at least not until some are finally built.

71 TBNers responded. Not a huge sample.

Does that mean the rest didn't get the ESP?

Should have included an "I did not get the ESP" option.

I responded even though I did not buy the ESP, if I had it would have been a waste of money. Only $400. out of pocket to date, 1 wheel sensor that would have been covered under the original warranty if it had not been canceled..

Re: Has Your Extended Warranty Been Worth the Cost?

I have received more in return than I paid for my warranty extension. I bought a Premium ESP with a $50.00 deductible when my original 3 year factory warranty was up, bought through Ford online. When that ends, I'll be extending through Lou, yes I live in Florida and yes I also have an address in Georgia. Cherokee Ford in Canton / Woodstock knows my car personally, 2 different occasions / trips they have replaced COP's, this past Thanksgiving they replaced the water / heater control valve. The day I can't extend the warranty any longer will probably be the day I sell, if not before. If I'm already getting more out of the warranty than it cost, well by then it will be older, more miles, more maintenance and simply cost prohibitive to keep and enjoy.

Brought the first ESP before the factory warranty ran out. Just renewed thru Lou for four years. It is for piece of mind

I bought my ESP on line when I bought my bird used, I just got it back from Liliston Ford for a problem with my air conditioning. They replaced the compressor, $817.52, discharge line, 283.56, dehydrater, 104, plus labor. My cost $50.00 deductible, yes I think it was worth purchasing. I plan on extending it out if I can when this one runs out.

So I have a question? What are you guys paying on average, for your extended warranty?

Re: Has Your Extended Warranty Been Worth the Cost?

Bought the ESP for $1500.00. My claims total was $900.00 before it expired. Never got my cost out of any extended service plan. It is a business of making money for the underwriters not saving the customer money. I find the easiest thing in the world to do is write a premium check every month and the hardest thing in the world is to get a claim check. (IMHO)

                            Hey Witchy:

Thanks for the mention. When issues arise like the one above with gnilier it sure is more than peace of mind.

To Bada: Yesterday I set up two more TBN members with Ford's Premium Care ESP. One in Maine, the other in Idaho. Saved both of them about $800.00 off the normal retail you'd pay at any FORD Dealer. Call me if you like. I'm in my office all day today.

To gnilier: When does your current warranty expire? Is it Premium Care from Ford? If it is, be sure to renew before it expires, you'll save some money. Call me if you want to know how/why.

I just re-extended my warranty on my 04 with Lou. I would'nt own one of these cars with out the Ford ESP Premium Warranty. When I can't extend the warranty any longer, the car will be sold.

Bought ESP from Lou. Have not used it yet but it's my insurance when we take our Blue Ridge Parkway trip.
                                Thank you Lou!
