To Bada: Yesterday I set up two more TBN members with Ford's Premium Care ESP. One in Maine, the other in Idaho. Saved both of them about $800.00 off the normal retail you'd pay at any FORD Dealer. Call me if you like. I'm in my office all day today.

To gnilier: When does your current warranty expire? Is it Premium Care from Ford? If it is, be sure to renew before it expires, you'll save some money. Call me if you want to know how/why.

I bought my Ford Premium ESP when I bought my Tbird back in March of last year, It expires @ 93,724 or 3/30/14, probably I will be renewing next year as I have put 26K on it already. i would definitly do it again.
It has paid for itself. Lou I will be calling you when the time comes, I wish i had found this website prior to buying my last ESP it cost 2005$ with 50$ deductible.

Well, I just purchased my '02 with less than 4K on it in July and plan to purchase an extended warranty (saving up now) for piece of mind. I drive it daily but won't put many miles on it. I want it to last as long as possible and I want to be able to "afford" to fix it when necessary. So Lou, I will be calling you back as soon as I have the $.

Re: Has Your Extended Warranty Been Worth the Cost?

Interesting question as I have just returned from my dealer with my second 02 T Bird. My contract included a "BaseCare" Ford ESP (mid range ESP). My CD would not load in slots 1 and 5& 6. Now it does not operate or load any slot and the ESP does not cover Radio/CD. The second problem was an overheat problem caused by coolant tank crack .. .no coverage by ESP. The coolant tank also failed on my first 02 TB. My first o2 had interesting AC/heater problem that the Right vent after driving an hour or so would become full hot. Left system would remain full cold. After stop of 10-15 minutes everything was normal again. This T Bird the opposite conditio exsists. The left system goes full hot and the right stays cold for 30 minutes or so and then goes full hot as well. After a 10-15 minute stop (engine off) all becomes normal. Naturally the dealer could not duplicate nor would ESP cover it.

Anybody have a fix for the Ac/heat situation?? PS: Yes I had a non Ford warranty on my first 02. $ 3,000 and Texas failed to verify bond on the company and went out of business. Zero value. Chuck

                Chuck:

Sorry you had so much trouble. I won't even comment on $3000 for a warranty. You have given some of the real life reasons why I tell anyone in my (FORD dealership) F&I office or callers from the TBird Nest that if they are inclined to purchase an extended service plan (ESP) they are going to take Ford's Premium Care or nothing (from me anyway). The only exception I make is if the car is beyond certain limits in time and/or miles for me to give it a Premium Care ESP.

Incidentally, unless your miles are out of reach you can still get a Premium Care ESP. Cal me if you have questions.,

Re: Has Your Extended Warranty Been Worth the Cost?

I knew from the start that this would be a low mileage car. I figured that the odds would be in my favor to skip a warranty. By now I would be on a second warranty and I am way ahead of the game.

                    Hi Gene:

One never knows if they are going to have the good luck that you've had or might go the other way. I always tell people that if these were a home appliance I wouldn't waste the money on a warranty. It goes bad, go get another. If, however, our TBird goes bad, it goes to the shop then there is no tellin' how much $$$ we may be in for.

The way I figure it is that if I can get a 4year bumper-to-bumper warranty for my 05 TBird for just $1,285 the worst that can happen is I had peace-of-mind at $321 dollars a year. But, if I have to get the dash tore down for an electronics issue for $2,100 I am going to be very happy I had the Premium Care ESP.

I hear you, Lou. I probably would have gone the ESP route if it was going to be my driver. It's a gamble either way and that's what insurance is all about. The warranty people figure that the average customer will have repairs less than the premium amount.

I know I feel "assured" since you sent me my ESP, Lou. Thanks. 2002 with 9000 miles. That's about to change!

Re: Has Your Extended Warranty Been Worth the Cost?

I bought the ESP through Lou for the 02 w/ less than 5,000 mi. and later had a P/S Pump go out - I felt good about taking it in for service since I had a warranty and also a coupon for $25 off on a battery and I told them it was mostly a garage queen so keep it inside.
After a week in the shop - they had to order the pump - I got a call that it was ready and that the bill was a little over $900.00. They said the leaking pump (I saw only a few spots on the garage floor that would indicate a leak) had destroyed some wiring, and some other components and that while the replacement pump was covered the rest was not. Then they hassled me about the $25 until I began to get rather firm with them. I paid the bill, and when I got to the car it was dirty - not just outside but inside - they hadn't put any paper mat in the driver side, cover on the steering wheel or cleaned the grease off the mat - I went ballistic. Needless to say not only won't I be going back there (it's the only Ford dealer for 30 mi.) for service I'll not darken their sales shop either, and my tale of discontent has traveled to the traditional 9 other people and more. Bottom line - I'm not sure if the Warranty helped or not but the lousy service didn't help my attitude one bit. PS I didn't get a service evaluation form in the mail or online - wonder why? WLW

Does that mean the rest didn't get the ESP?
Should have included an "I did not get the ESP" option.
No ESP here but YEAH given the POOR platform Retrobird is based on AND per these Boards everyone should send you a check tomorrow~!

                                Wayne:

That is a miserable experience. From my seat the ESP may not have been handled properly by the dealer. Regarding the wiring- if the damage was due to some issue related to the covered component then you should have been covered. and they know that. If, however, the wiring was damaged due to something like mice chewing on it in the garage, you are liable for it. I am surprised they did not note on the repair order what the cause of the wiring damage was.

I can help you with this one. In an email- Send me the name and contact details for the dealership. I will also need the repair order, which you can FAX or mail a copy to me. If the wiring is detremined to be covered I can get it handled for you from here. My service manager said he will deal with it for you.

The personal attention you experienced was very poor. The survey address was likely scrambled by the staff. A bad survey is costly to them so they probably had yours sent to a staff person's home and I'm sure you gave a glowing testimonial on behalf of the service department by extension. Sorry about that.

Anyway, get that repair order and the dealership details to me and I will handle it for you.
