    Re: Owners Age Poll 2011

As this old poll indicates that well over 50% of us are over 60 years old we are a young group indeed.
I would put a few dollars on that being a correct statistic. I might also lose A few dollars on the number of ''members'' with 15 posts over the last two years as I don't think it would be many.

A number of years ago a member of the Cadillac Allante club was looking to buy new insurance ( from whom I don't remember) and had a fairly significant discount available if he belonged to a car club of a certain size.
It like us had many members listed on the first page of the web-site but many many fewer active participants. the web page was used and the discount given.

IMHO that was the only time ever worth discussing this type of member issue.

Rick you have a valid point. Started reading some of the old post along with the new postings and started to wonder if this car was worth it. Already had cop issues, fuel pump $1200 and then there are conversation on J hooks, overheating, etc. Took hard top off a couple of days ago and first thing I looked at was the J hooks and are they pulling to tight causing failure. I usually didn't keep a car more then 4 yrs, always bought new, so this retro, 2005, is a new experience. The other thing is I'm second owner so from some of the things I found indicated that the original owner didn't take care of the car like I do.
I would love to take this car cross country to NC and GA but I am apprehensive. When I make a trip like that I usually try to do 1000 miles a day.

As our Thunderbirds depreciate, we may lower the average age of ownership. Back in 1958 when I was 16 a Baby Bird was way too expensive for me to buy. But I could afford a '54 Chrysler Convertible for $850. A 1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk was in a car lot for $1700, too much. But I sure enjoyed the test drive!

wow 13.9% of the owners less than 50 years old. Does that qualify us as a young group?

That was a heck of an engine, but the ecco boost may be even better.
My expedition has more power than the previous with a 5.4 and 6 more MPG.

                        Re: Owners Age Poll 2011

Interesting poll, however, the results could be misleading. Here's why:

The poll is almost five years old. So those who voted in 2011 are now 4-5 years older. Those who voted in 2012 are now 3-4 years older, and so on.

To be accurate, it would take a new poll each year reflecting the CURRENT age of members who vote, not their age back in 2011, 2012, 2013, etc.

Assuming the results are similar to what the current poll shows, a majority, roughly 60%, would fall into the 56-70 groupings. But unless a lot of younger (40 and under) people join (currently only about 4% of those who voted), the average age of members will continue to trend older.

I may be in one of the oldest groups 71-75, but I have one of the youngest Thunderbirds! It's the 2005 50th anniversary year, not the real 50th anniversary model but a Black one with a chrome grill and a tan top and no hardtop,... (that makes it rarer).
