Re: Impact of the economy and the gas price.

I just bought my Anniversary Edition very recently. It is a daily driver. If I was concerned about maintenance cost, I wouldn't have bought it.

Seeing your comments, the gas price is not making a difference at all.

So, what is in general the negative point of these cars for the years to come?

      Thanks,
      Alain

For the short term probalyl some parts but if people kept 55-57's going we will too. I think theese cars will soon bottom out in price as I am seeing less and less on the streets and fewer for sale. The big ? is will they ever go over the original price. My guess is a few with a history mite but most won't. At least in most of our lifetimes.

I plan to drive it and enjoy it as long as I can. Apparently Cali only sells 91 octane, the best mileage I get is when my husband doesn't touch it, I get 22 hwy, but only about 14 city, there are a LOT of stop signals in that 5.5 miles to work.
I check mileage fairly often and no mater where or how we drive it it is always the same. 20 MPG uphill or down city or highway. If ir was a cmputer like the expadition I'd say it was broke. I do burn 93 octane

I believe that the weak point will prove to be all of the computer driven electronics. They control so much of the car and can be difficult to find for replacement.

Agreed, this is my biggest concern. Gas prices will be what they will be. Besides, after putting 12-13M miles a year on the car as a daily driver for 8 years, now I work from home and the car is rarely driven.

Re: Impact of the economy and the gas price.

Most cars are now loaded with electronics and are expensive to maintain.

For me, the difference is spending money on a car that I rely on daily, or spending money on a car that sits in the garage a great deal of the time.

Something goes bad on my 64 Galaxie, I'm under the hood with wrenches, unless it's a real major issue.

Something goes bad on my retro (or LS), I'm off to my friendly dealer, who (no surprise) is in business to make money.

After spending 3k on a tranny in April, it's not leaving anytime soon!

What's the negative? Just guessing, but expensive to repair comes to mind.
