David and I had the first corn on the cob this season. He eats his corn across like a typewriter and I eat my corn around.

I go all the way around the cob in a circle then move over and do another circle.

My reasoning is this – freshly cooked corn is not uniformly hot. It cools more quickly on the edges. By eating around on the edges first, you create natural hand holds and then can proceed to eat around to the center, which cools last.
I googled eating corn on the cob and found that if you eat corn across you are analytical, rational and do not like surprises.
If you eat your corn around you are spontaneous, creative and enjoy new experiences.
