I remember the 32 cent days well. Couldn't believe that it would hit $1.00.

When I first started buying gas it was 22 cents and as low as 19 cents when there was a gas war. I was working for 75 cents an hour and could afford a car so I was doing OK.

We must have bought gas at the same places. Nineteen cents is lowest I remember as well. It was a Sinclair station in about 1964.
We're lighter. We're faster. If that don't work, we're nastier.
        We're gonna make history.

          Steve, and All,
A few months ago when the gas was hovering around $2.50 per gallon, I stopped at our small town convenience store to fill my truck. In paying the $50.00 it cost to fill, I commented to the young clerk that I paid $50.00 for my first car, a 1951 Ford, and that $2.50 I just paid per gallon would have filled it up!
          Time passes...

19 cents a gallon back in the mid-fifties.

That pesky inflation gets us every time! Sometimes I forget that I earned 85 cents per hour as a student wage while in high school. The larger numbers on the paycheck mean little when the dollars don't buy as much.
Gas wars, yes, I remember them too. Gas station attendants pumping gas, checking oil, washing windows, and sometimes checking tire air pressure as part of full service. Then after a fill up you might get a Melmac dish to complete the dining table set.

Since we are going back in the day:

In 1972 I was selling building materials in Eastern Arkansas and
Western Mississippi and had a 1972 Vega, complete with an aluminum block
engine that had all kinds of reliability issues.

There was a Pure Gas station, and a Gulf Gas station in
Benoit Ms. that were across the highway from each other.
They had a 'Gas War' that lasted several months.

Regular got down to 13 Cents per gallon.

It seemed like I spent more time traveling to
                get cheap gas than selling..........

Just got back from filling up the family car with 87 octane for .899 cents a gallon. Used my Kroger points to knock a $1.00 a gallon off the regular price. Sorta reminds me of the good old days.

Well I'll tell ya that my wife put regular gas (87 octane) in from the local gas station for 3 tankfulls now. She didn't remember me telling her that the manual calls out for 91 octane minimum, but the last time we drove it the check engine light came on and has stayed on. Could be a coincidence but I ordered an OBD2 reader to see what the issue is.

Regular unleaded and so far there have been no issues. Car only has 6k miles on it so I guess I have a lot of time to see what lies ahead.
