I have an interest in sharing with those with less than 20 K. What kind of repairs have you had to make, not maintenance, but repairs. Politely, I have already encountered differences here and here is the basic concept. If you have 80K+ you have been driving it, which is great. And you have put wear on many components. Regrettably, I have to say, with 15,215 on the odometer, I have not screwed my car. But, Ford most certainly has, while they were building the engine right down to repairing fender damage (not my fault).
Valve cover gaskets, leading to COP failure, defective COPs in the first place, and now be forewarned, your wiper motor may also fail. Bulletins 07M07 and 07N09, courtesy of the FOMOCO.
For nearly 10 years I trusted my dealer to respect my car and me. They did not. I'm no stranger to working on cars. But, at my age, I didn't get this one so I could work on it!
Terry I feel your pain, however I do have a high mileage Bird and expected some problems. The wiper motor recall is the gasket they replace to prevent water from leaking into the engine and COP area, I don't think you have to worry about the motor going bad. My car had the valve cover gaskets replaced by the PO, I assume under the extended warranty. However the bumbling mechanics that replaced the gasket may have stopped leaks into the COP area but dripping onto the floor and exhaust instead. The PO took the car back to the dealer twice to get the leaks fixed, they swore each time it was fixed and the PO told me it was fixed. But the car still leaks oil out the top of the left cover around variable valve timing connector, of course I have no remedy other than doing myself or pay my mechanic.
Today, I have 154,101km or 95,542mi purchased in 2008 with 37,795km or 23,431mi.
I have spent a few dollars in repairs, transmission, cops and damages done by a Lincoln Mercury Dealer in NM on our way back from Pikes Peak. Oddly enough, the damage repair was greater then the original problem.
Even so, still makes me smile, still enjoy driving it and more important love the friends I have made attending the annual Thunders.
Expect to join the 100K by the time we get back from the Black Hills Expedition
I have just 14,000 miles on my Neiman-Marcus, and have not needed any repairs. With mileage that low I wasn't expecting any problems, but I am concerned about components that may fail due just to age.
Took delivery in Oct. 2001, so my belts, hoses, etc. are over 13 years old. It's been in Southern California since new (with the exception of two years in middle Tennessee), and has never been driven in the snow.
This weekend in attending Thunderbirds of Las Vegas dinner gathering at Dona Maria Tamales our T-Bird broke 20,000 miles. Did a little more driving Sunday so now has 20,073 miles.
Short hops in and around THE VILLAGES, here in Florida where we live keeps the mileage down to some degree. MERLOT-MOBILE has 51,205 miles on her. Driven two or three times a week, almost always with the top down.
Rick,
That's the one I want next so please keep the mileage down!
Bill....I tried and tried to get it done....The seller was holding the car for me with a deposit and the buyer on mine just fell apart. He had money in a trust and the trustee wouldn't release. Anyway, yeah I was pretty disappointed as it had the black top and interior, otherwise I wouldn't have been interested. All things seem to work out though. Now that the wife has a new MKC perhaps a new GT on the Z plan could be in my future.
