    Re: Windshield Trim Problems

Who's Mr. Lawrence? If it's me, my comment is 2bad4u, you should have a Premium ESP warranty and your bushings would be covered.

I agree, if you don't like the car get rid of it. Remember you are talking about a 12 year old car not last year's model. Most of us that are original owners have faced these issues and dealt with them without all the moaning and groaning I see in this thread. As Leroy mentioned, you should have gotten an ESP from Ford and you would not be paying for the repairs.

It is not a question of money for repairs. Sorry, you are wrong.

It's a question about not having money to get the director's cut of "The Wedding Crashers". That a funny movie. Has anyone here seen it?

                  Re: Windshield Trim Problems

Back on topic again.. Pitting, bubbling or chrome lifting is a common issue. Has anyone sanded down the pieces, bondoed the area and repainted (colour match of car or used the chrome paint spray) with any success?
I'm thinking of doing either of the above but don't want to make a bad situation worse. All 3 pieces are showing the problem across the top edge where the top meets the chrome and where the 3 pieces join.

                  Thx for input.

John: Why not try to make contact with these people and see what their response is. Would not mind knowing when the time comes for my trim pieces. Keep us posted.

Thx. Didn't know they existed. Will try and get over in next week or two as about an hour and a half away.
An option anyway. Still like to know if anyone has done the work themselves.

As a GM finance guy for 20+ years I know that figures don't lie but liars figure. Just looking at the results (without a calculator and before coffee--dangerous) says to me that 75% of the respondents didn't have a problem and about 50% of those that did were '04 owners. Any thing there in '04 or just a reporting fluke?

Looking forward to the results of your trip John.

                          Re: Windshield Trim Problems

Have owned my MERLOT MOBILE for about 6 weeks now. When I bought it I saw that the passenger side of windshield molding was "peeling". As I became more familiar with my 2004 I have found other small chrome pieces bubbling or flaking. As best as I can reconstruct, my BIRD has been garaged almost it's entire life which leads me to believe that the process used to chrome the various pieces was not done correctly a lot of the time. My BIRD just turned 48K and is running strong. Painting the effected moldings the same color as the BIRD does not seem to detract in any way from the car's GREAT LOOK, in fact in may even enhance it. As best as I can tell my BIRD has lived in Florida since being put in service in October, 2003. Thanks for listening/reading.

Went to look at a priced right, lower mileage Merlot yesterday. It was my first opportunity to see bad windshield trim. looked terrible. Hope these pieces are still available.

Phil looks like a candidate for your growing trim business.

I missed the poll but my windsheld trim is bubbling on the top trim, passenger side. It's also bubbling on my hood scoop and starting to try to peel on the inside door handle. The chrome handle on my husband's 2005 Cobalt with less miles started peeling a couple years ago so not just a Ford issue. It was a garage queen with only 23k miles on it when he bought it about 5 years ago.

OR, Perhaps he just doesn't know what he is talking about?

These problems are the same with any other production car regardless of the price point. The COPS issue is common on all cars with this type of ignition system. It isn't just a Ford problem.

Chromed trim is subject to so much exposure, sun, heat, stone chips, bugs and so on and so forth. I don't know of another car with this much chrome trim around the windshield these days. Too bad they hadn't done the windshield surround in polished stainless steel....but they are what they are.

Sounds like 2bad4u is ready to move onto something else or paint out his windshield trim to body color.

Drive it like you stole it !!!
