Re: Time for a Valve Job

Another week has passed, now two weeks since surgery. Pain is reduced and I feel more like myself. Next week is full of follow-up doctor visits. Two more weeks until I can drive. According to the booklet from the hospital, I can skydive after 3 months. That will be a new experience.

Re: Time for a Valve Job

I saw the cardiologist today and the surgeon earlier this week. Both are very pleased with my progress. I'm ahead of the typical patient's recovery and I have the green light for driving. I'm one lucky guy, all of your prayers have worked once again!

"The gods help those who help themselves"....give yourself a lot of credit for some hard work, it isn't easy getting over major surgery and recovery doesn't come without effort. And some help from the big guy upstairs, of course. I am really pleased for you to have done so well!

Thanks for your concern. I'm continuing to improve, most of the pain is gone. I now need to increase my endurance as I still tire easily. Docs all say I need a full three months to recover but I'm on the way.

All things in time, Gene. It takes a while to get over the anesthetic, not to mention regaining strength from the operation. I think you're doing great, hang in there.

So sorry that I am so late in checking in. I just discovered this thread today. How are things going now as you approach the 3 month mark?

No problem, Skip. I'm doing great. As you noted, I'll be three months since surgery this week. That's the point where I'm allowed to resume all normal activities. I may even get that hardtop off.

                              Gene,
Great news! Seems like a very fast recovery from what I consider is serious surgery. It's amazing the improvements they have made in valve replacement in the last decade.

If this were 30 years ago, I'd be out of luck. I can't even imagine what will be possible in the future. I'm just glad that it's in my rearview mirror.
