  • Mecum T'Birds

My tire guy tried to tell me he saw a low mile Cashmere sell on Mecum for $5000? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Did anyone see that? I know they have devalued quite a bit since I bought mine but that's crazy!

Found a Cashmere listed for the Harrisburg auction this week. Lot F140, one owner, 15,000 mile car. Don't see anything about a 5k price. That of course would be a steal.

Gene, the auction number F140 means it goes on the block this Friday. I will be there on Saturday. Lot S110, is a Whisper White with 750 miles on the clock. That should bring more than all the others going off on Thursday and Friday

That Torch Red T45.1 hammered for $18,500 but actually cost $20,350 with the 10% Buyer's commission added by Mecum. The cars tomorrow and Saturday are much lower mileage and will probably bring more. So, the dealer in Hilton Head, SC is not being unrealistic with his price of $17,500 even with his $499. added profit. His car also had under 30,000 miles.

Thanks for the info, Mike. I have a family commitment Saturday or I would have tried to meet you. BTW, I get lots of positive feedback on the wheels.

That 02 WW may have been the cleanest and nicest retro I have ever seen, and I am not a big WW fan. Like you stated 26K didn't do it. I told the owner he should have taken the money and run!

It may take another decade before our "Classics" get the respect and love we have for them. In $$$$$$ that is. My Sister-in-law bought a 1956 as a used car and paid very little when her car was just another used car. And the Baby Birds remained that way for a good while. Remember the 1958-1960 Birds outsold the two seaters by a factor of about 3 to 1. It's not like suddenly everyone wanted a 55-57 back then.

I'm sure there will be a select few that will be put away like these at Mecum and Barret Jackson that will command top dollar. As for the daily driver, I don't see it happening. I say drive and enjoy them

I did not buy it to make money. I have learned long ago on other cars buy it because you like it and enjoy it - that is where the value is. I will never get the money back out of mine and that it fine. It had 46K on it when bought and it is now a daily driver and we are loving every minute of it.

I don't think anyone ever bought one to make money, at least not the first owners that's for sure. I bought an 02 with 26K miles for $17K, drove it for two years and at 32K miles I sold it for $17,500. That's about as good as anyone is going to do. True, I don't have all the precious memories 100K miles bring with it. I now have a retractable HT second car that I enjoy to the tune of about 3K miles a year.

When I bought mine, the salesman had just delivered one to another customer. The buyer pointed to where he wanted it in the garage and asked him to cover it. He never even sat in the car. I didn't get it then and I still don't. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
