  • Car Hunting

Went car hunting today. Looked at a Jeep 4 door Wrangler. Nice fun toy, but impracticable for every day use. Margaret and I both had trouble with the high step in. Too much money. We'll keep looking.

Good luck you two. Some cars are too high and like the Corvette too low. Jane likes her Edge but I'm not impressed. Keep us posted..

Take a look at the Ford Escape. A few of us on here have one. Easy in and out and not too high like an SUV. They run around $21,000 for base to $31,000 for the Titanium.

We have a 2008 Escape and love it. Picked it up last year from the original "little old lady from New York" owner with 26k miles on it for $11k. It's our second Escape, the first one got taken out by a texting teenager driving an Explorer. RIP white Escape.

Charlie, you may want to consider the Subaru Crosstrek...my nephew and my sister own them and LOVE them.

I have been checking out the Mustangs and the Camaros on the internet. I'm looking for a convertible or so-called muscle car to replace the T'bird. We have a Ford Edge that we're keeping.

Hey little sister, you should check out the Slingshot if you want the wind in your hair. You and Charlie would look good in one of those.

Short story: In 1982 I was managing a small retail shop in the Paradise Valley area. I had several old men who'd come in while their wives would shop the mall - just to kill the time. One of them was an 85-year-old Sun City fella who walked with a cane. He would drive in from the west side of the valley so his wife could shop and we'd chat...him smokin' his cigar...shootin' the breeze for hours on end. One morning he walks in the shop and says to me, "Jim, I just bought a new car...walk out to the parking lot with me so I can show you."

So, I walked out with him (slowly...the cane), expecting to see a new Buick LeSabre or Mercury Grand Marquis. He points to a bright red, IROC Z-28 with a 4-speed and says, "Whadya think?" You could have pushed me over with a feather.

I wanna be that guy when I'm 85.

After watching a show today where they were working with one of the new 2.3 liter turbo charged 4 cylinder model Mustangs, it looked like a pretty sweet ride. With a bolt on kit from Borla (includes a larger Borg Warner turbo, larger intercooler, high flow exhaust and a tune for 91 octane) they had bumped that little car up to 340hp at the rear wheels with torque in the 350 range. That's serious muscle when you need it from a small fuel efficient engine.

Hey big brother, where am I going to put the groceries when I go to the store? It does look like a fun toy.

I might need to go test drive an Ecoboost Mustang. They say it has a little "pep".

If you go to edmunds.com, you can click on the convertible button to see all new convertibles currently on the market. It also gives you the ballpark for price.

Finding a drop top that is also easy to get in and out of may be a challenge.

The VW Beetle convertible has a turbo 4 cylinder engine and a higher stance which should make for easier entry and exit. Sadly, no one will confuse it with a muscle car. They also have a pink one for Ron.
