  • Top Repair

I have an 02. This morning I noticed there is some tearing away under the window on the inside of my top on both sides. This top was replaced before I purchased the car in May. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you have to do to get it repaired? The weather is so perfect but I'm afraid of putting the top down because I don't want the tears to get worse. Also, what kind of place repairs the tops? Thank you for any information.

Do you have pictures? If it is a new top installation, it may have to be repaired by a shop. If it is the glass separating from the top, you will be able to re-glue.

Automobile Upholstery shops frequently do convertible tops too. Just Google for a local shop that installs convertible tops and you'll get some quick answers.

I just got a car out of the top shop to repair the same problem. He used an epoxy to secure the top to the glass. He said he does 10-15 back glasses a week in his shop and that all brands have the problem.

With a new top, this might not be her problem, unless they did not replace the window when they installed a top.

I'm thinking they didn't replace the window. Still trying to post pictures.

If the glass is loose to the bottom of the top, then you need to have that glued like Dave did.

That seems to be a problem created by the person who installed the new top. If you can find another Thunderbird to look at you might be able to redo some of this sloppy work yourself.

Thank you. I'll take it by a trusted place and see what they say.

Rebecca, I just used gorilla glue about three years ago and it has held up fine. Good luck.

You put gorilla glue on the cloth around the window? It's almost like the cloth is dry-rotted.
