  • REPLACEMENT PARTS "OBSOLETE"

I know others have had a failure with the Front Electronics Module. I recently asked two separate Ford dealers to replace the faulty unit and both responded that the Instrument Cluster Part # FEM 1W6Z-10849 AA is obsolete, not available. Replacement parts require programing to sync with the security system. Used parts cannot be reprogrammed. Apparently the Company to which this particular unit was outsourced is defunct. The dealer provided the following address to write with our concerns: FORD MOTOR COMPANY, Customer Relations Center, P.O. Box 6248, Dearborn, MI 48126. You might not have experienced this problem YET, but ours is a 2002 version with 40,000 miles and this problem just now appeared. The only other problem has been the passenger door lock not responding to the remote and driver door buttons. We know this is covered by a post. We can live with this inconvenience but NOT seeing the dash lights at night is problematic. Right now we use a flashlight. Please write a concern about replacement parts that become obsolete and are not available. If you are aware of other such parts, share that information with the Nest. Thank you.
    Thanks, TYMLESS

    Are you sure about that?

Tried again and it worked! Must have been a fluke. Thanks for setting me straight. More options are always better.

Think there was info on someone getting a FEM programmed/repaired in the following thread:

I would highly recommend anyone to try this if they have any issues.

I couldn't figure out how to start a new thread so I'm stealing this one.
I'm returning home from Philadelphia in a Merlot I bought there.

the heater doesn't work. The actual works but only at its coldest setting. The head unit will show any numbers I dial in but the unit doesn't respond to the settings.
it's reading the 60 degree seeing only, regardless of the setting. If I select actually it will come on but the temp will not adjust.
Does anyone have any ideas or are there any old threads about this. I got nothing when I searched.

Sorry about that terrible composition. I'm typing while trying to eat prime rib and drink wine in Omaha.

John, The AC unit in our 02 wouldn't respond to settings either so finally took it to an independent repair shop who had a qualified AC mechanic. It was fixed within a couple of days. I think the fix was that it was low on coolant.

I would wager it is the coolant control valve. Fairly common problem.

I sent an email to AES asking for assistance with the FEM. Thanks for all your advice. Hope this works. Will let you know. TYMLESS is grateful.
                          Thanks, TYMLESS

I sent an email to AES about the FEM module but didn't get a response. In the meantime we decided to use an LED strip under the dash to illuminate the speedometer at night. We obtained a 4 pc SurLight Car LED Strip Light through Amazon.com for less than $20. Power source is cigarette lighter. A little funky but it works. The kit was for other intended uses so much of it isn't needed. Still would like to have a real replacement part (see my original post before it got highjacked). I really like my car.
                            Thanks, TYMLESS

Will add my 2 cents worth > I had PCM and got same "LINES" from Ford ! But eventually they agreed to REPLACE > I got PCM from FLAGSHIP ONE ; so far NO PROBLEMS ! ANd it has a " LIFETIME WARRANTY" and not VOID MY FORD ESP WARRANTY
