Engine light won't go off.

I had the old problem of a loose gas cap and that threw the car into limp mode, the wrench sign came on along with the engine light. I tightened the cap and everything cleared up except the engine light stayed on. This happened about two weeks ago. I called my mechanic and he said once the car had a few miles on it the light would go out. The light is still on. I am taking the car to my mechanic next week for a diagnostic but the car runs fine and I haven't had any problems at all. Any ideas?

Some times it takes a number of ignition cycles for the light to reset. Give it a little more time, especially if it's running fine.

What is the error code? You may have a different issue than the gas cap. Most any auto supply store will read the codes for you. Auto Zone comes to mind.

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and re connect, this may reset things.

Check for codes, just might be going through drive cycle.
