Not Storing for the Winter

I'm going to keep my T Bird on the road this year during the winter. I've stored it every winter in the past but regretted it last year as it wasn't a bad winter. So this year I'm going to drive it when the roads are not to bad. With any luck it will be a mild winter and I'll add to the 37,000 miles on it. I might as well get some use out of the hard top.

I have a Subaru Forester that gets used most of the time and a 95 Jag XJS that I did just put in storage. I really don't like winter.

No storing away here in Palm Coast Florida.I have waited most of the long summer to take the hard top off.It's so brutally HOT here in the summer months that cruising top down and top off makes for some sun baked heads and sun baked interior. Here in Florida our fall and winter months are a convertible owners dream months.

Good idea. It will be fun to take it out every once and a while this winter if the weather isn't bad.

Kind of cool here today....only 72 outside. Don't need airconditioning; just roll down the window or take the top off.

After 14+ years, I still enjoy driving these Thunderbirds. My wife has been out of town for a week. I parked her Mercedes in the garage and have been driving my grey Thunderbird to work most of the past week. I actually drove both of the Thunderbirds today.

No storing in California's Coast. Our first rain today--kinda a sprinkle--signals that it is time to begin thinking about putting the top on. Hopefully by Thanksgiving.

Keep the T-Birds in the garage with dust covers on. Can pull off in about 2 minutes. It looks like were going to have real nice week mid 70's

You're going to have a real nice week in the mid 70's while we're going to have a seasonal week in the mid 7's in Southern Ontario.

My baby is in the garage with her dust cover on but for the better part of the next 5 months or so......YOU LUCKY PEOPLE !!!!

For the first three years from new ours was driven 365 days in Pa. In the snow, sleet and rain. It survived and was very good in the snow. It's now a garage queen except for going on TBN Events and that still puts around 10,000 miles on it a year. We just finished a 5,500 mile road trip to New Orleans and Texas. Drive them.

Funny thing is. People with a lot less miles seem to have a lot more problems with their Bird then we do with 130,000 miles on the clock. My biggest problem now is getting the sets recovered.

This is the first winter in 5 years that Black Beauty has been called into service and no complaints from her so far. It's currently 67 in The Villages and 17 back home where Jane is. Today, Stu Weir is coming for lunch with his repainted Merlot. After lunch we'll put on my new bling the 'rim protectors'. Yesterday at church there were two other retros in the parking lot. A white 03 and a black 02. The 02 owner, a lady, told me that all the mods (conservative TBC add-ons) were done by her husband Dick. So I said that maybe I should talk to Dick. She informed me that Dick passed away 4 years ago..I'm looking forward to my afternoon with Stu. I bought him a welcome present a Fasmov Car Duster....I'm glad to have Black Beauty here this winter...who knows if it will happen again....hang in there Charlie

As soon as we bought our three retros, we took the hardtops off and have never put them back on. My only concern would be if the cars fade some, the tops will no longer match. Might be time to do some polishing, waxing, buffing and all that good stuff.
Georgia has some great weather. Year around driving.

Never use the hardtop? That is such a classic Thunderbird look and really is when these cars look their best in my opinion.

I hear you Spence; loud and clear; but in central Ontario with all the 'stuff' that comes along with the snow - road sand, salt, ice chunks and CRAPPY DRIVERS, I just don't want to take the chance! I agree that these great vehicles were made to drive all year round, and perhaps one day I'll feel more comfortable taking that step, but for now I just couldn't bear to expose my baby to all that's nasty about winter up here. I only had her on the road for 5 months this summer but still managed 5000 amazingly enjoyable Kilometers. My accommodating neighbours offered to drive her to Green Valley Arizona to be in a nice warm climate with them all winter. Not too likely !

Some folks are lucky enough to enjoy third bird year round, not my case.... Being in Quebec,Canada,, my baby is gonna snooze until next end of april,2018. Its a warm 20 degrees tonight.

In the 12 years of ownership of our 05 we have never stored the Bird over winter. It is our daily driver. Here is a photo from last year's winter, this day all Bird flights were canceled until later in the week.
