  • Thunderbird Insurance Tip

While this may not apply to all T-Birders, some may benefit from cost savings.
I rarely drive my Thunderbird, so I contacted Hartford where I have three cars and three homes insured and asked them
if they have a "storage" provision for collectable cars. I had been paying about $375/year for full coverage.
They offered that I could opt for a plan where I could suspend driving coverage while still maintaining damage, etc. losses for
$37/year. If I wanted to drive the car, all I had to do was to contact them the day before I drive the car, then the day before
I stopped driving it. The days of fully active insurance is prorated on a daily basis based on the annual insurance cost.
This might be ideal for those who put their car in storage for the winter. However, all insurance companies may not offer this
    "storage" provision.
    Just a thought.

BTW, I checked with Hagerty for their pricing and Hartford beat it by at least $100/yr.

Interesting read. Brings back old memories from the days when I lived in Alberta where there was private insurance. Here in Beautiful British Columbia we have the provincial government looking after our insurance needs on our behalf. And of course it comes at a cost as all government run entities do. Basically double what the same coverage was in Alberta. But, the climate is better.
The manditory registration/liability insurance coupled with the 3rd party comprehensive insurance to the Tbird runs a paultry $120 per month. The reason it's so cheap is because I get a 43% discount for being claim free. I can buy insurance for 1 year or 3 month minimum terms.
So come fall, I buy Storage Insurance for 6 months for a meager $85. Plus Tax of course,,,,

Yall have a Merry Christmas and a Properous and Healthy New Year.

Grundy is what I have and will not change. Best insurance for these cars if you have more cars then drivers in your family.

I use Hartford for our 2 daily drivers. I agree with Spence though as our 2 Thunderbirds are with Grundy as well. I don't want to call the insurance company when I feel like driving the car. What a hassle. Usually it is more of a spur of the moment decision on the weekend.

The great thing about Hartford is that if you call them on your phone on their records, they immediately have access to your insurance information.
I have them on speed dial, so calling them to drive my car isn't a big hassle and I save about $300/year with no downside.

We use USAA for everything but our hot rods and the T-bird. We use Hagerty for the 34 Chevy, the 53 F-100 and th4 T-Bird.
USAA offers the storage rate for our daily drivers also, handy for when we go to Florida for a couple months in the winter or we are gone on a road trip for a long period.

Just got an e-mail from Hagerty about their Cherished Salvage Program. Agreed upon value is paid and you get to keep the car if you wish without a reduction in payout.

Anybody heard of/used. I'm not a believer in " a free lunch anywhere" and this seems to good to be true at first blush!
