  • Leaky Bird

I need help! My 2005 losing antifreeze from left side of engine/radiator. It is in shop, they replaced cap but continues to leak under pressure. Hoses are only two years old. Mechanic says can't find leak and says it may be in engine(very expensive) no sign of oil, just pure antifreeze. Car has 75,000 miles. Just replaced electric component in AC when it started blowing only hot air, leak started 2 days after that job. Anyone out there had this problem or any suggestions, can it just be radiator needs replacing? HELP,HELP FOR CRIPPLED BABY BIRD. If someone can call me at 361-648-5055. I now live in Ingleside Texas. Got here just in time for Harvey.
i appreciate the 5 responses I have had. Talked with my mechanic today and he told me the filling. Antifreeze leaks from thermostat housing when under high pressure. This is a housing that was replaced about six weeks ago due to overheating problem. Frank went ahead and replaced this one in case it was defective. New one did same thing. He said radiator pressure should be 30 but pressure coming up to 30. On Monday I am going to tell him about the overflow bottle. I have one question about thermostat housing, should it be replaced with a ford part or will whatever he bought at the parts store be ok?

You need to find a new shop, any decent radiator shop will add a dye and pressure test. If no leak then, check your oil dipstick for radiator fluid

Check for a cracked degas (overflow) bottle.

Might want to have your mechanic check the degas bottle (especially the back side) for small cracks. Mine only showed up under pressure and were on the back towards the firewall, took me a while using a mirror to see the actual leak. I have used North Park Lincoln a few times when I had a problem with my 05. They did all my cops (under Ford's 10 year extended) and a few other minor items, they still have a few technicians that worked on the Lincoln LS and have treated me right.. Can't say the same for the Ford Dealership they own in New Braunfels.. Good luck!

Looks like Gene types faster that I do!!

If it’s the bottle, replace it with the Ford part. The aftermarket bottles just don’t last.

Well Gene plus others know that my Hardtop goes on with the last pitch of the World Series and off with the first pitch of the Major league BB season. What does that have to do with a leaky thread. Well I had help with putting the top on early on Sunday. One minute after the top is on the Grey Witch I mean Ghost gets ticked and spills her Anti-freeze right at my feet. She is obviously ticked.

Tow it to friendly garage and go back today to Pick it up. Good news is it is only the Degas Bottle. Better news is I replaced that previously and it was still under a NAPA warranty. Paid $17.13 for the anti freeze otherwise it was $270 with labor. (What does a Ford part cost?) Bottle was made by D_ _ Man for Napa.

Moral of the story is either :
1.) Stick to your established time table for HT install/removal.

2.) Only buy a Ford Degas bottle.

Sorry to hear that, Bill. Our weather seems to have finally taken a turn to the cool side. I will put the top on when I have a strong relative come over.

Do they call it a Pollock bottle on a Renault?

Logically they could call it a Pollock Bottle, if a Tbird has a Degas.
