  • Stock Radio Audio Input Jack/MP3/Bluetooth for 2003

My son is looking for suggestions on audio input devices for a 2003 Thunderbird for an Android. As long as it has an input line he can add Bluetooth to it inline. I have a device that I bought years ago from Neo Ion, it came with male and female harnesses that I believe go to the steering wheel controls off the radio, this then went to a box and then an Ipod. Also looking for a phone mount that I bought years ago that utilizes the holes in the dash next to the radio for mounting.

Go for it Bob..I'd even settle for XM radio. The hard tonneau arrived at Midwest Rod and Custom. No inspection has been done as it is still snow and cold here..ugh

Have someone check to make sure it didn't get damaged in transit ASAP, limited time to make a claim with Fedex.

I have a direct input for my 2003. Had to buy harness and adapter box and even made my own input impedance adapter with Radio Shack audio transformers to boost input of Android. Will do a little searching tonight for brand. If I had to do it again would settle for new radio with usb and bluetooth.

If you are looking for a dead simple aux input, I still stand by a FM modulator. If you get more complicated, might as well go for a new radio. IMHO

(More brands than this one, just shop around.)

Sealy, I tried one of the FM modulators and the sound quality was horrible. Hiss, no highs and lows but would say that traveling down the road perhaps all of that gets lost in the noise of the wind and car anyway.

Yup, especially in populated areas, he's considering an FM modulator that plugs into the antenna but I'm not familiar with the quality on them, I know it's better then the wireless version.

I think the unit I used has been discontinued. It was either isimple or PAC brand. Try a PAC Aux2 interface with PXHFD3 cable.

Yes, The quality is as good as FM radio and there is no interference. Most of them cut out the car antenna when they are in use and feed directly into the antenna jack. As I said, dead simple input.

Sealy. Theoretically as good as FM but the electronics isn't nearly as good as the radio station broadcast electronics. A tape adapter are tons better quality if your car stereo has a tape deck.

I was wondering if an LS radio with a tape player would work in a Tbird

My Merlot has a CD slot, Bluetooth phone and audio, Sirius, aux in, USB port, backup camera, plays movies, and will have navigation shortly. And, I'm outta here.

Is that with an aftermarket radio?

Yes. Tried every other option and add on to the stock radio and finally gave up.

Did you try getting an extra harness and splicing in? The pin out looks like it would work, I believe the device I have plugs into the steering wheel control harness but it looks like something could be done with the regular harness.
