        I agree.
In 30,000 years, when the next ice age arrives, we will need some global warming.

Right. In the early 1900's when the gasoline engine took over as the power source for automobiles they didn't outlaw steam.
When they outlawed lead in gasoline they still permitted leaded fuel additives to be sold so legacy automobiles can still operate.
When they pass fuel economy standards (CAFE) it is not applied retroactively, older less efficient automobiles are grandfathered.
There are over 250 million gasoline powered vehicles on he road today, in 20 or so years there will still be tens of millions of them on the road regardless of the then current power source. (Today there are over 50 million vehicles 19 years or older on the road. https://www.nbcnews.com/business/aut...longer-n126226 )

Wasn't the first commercially available electric car first sold in the early 1900's?

Yes, and 120 years later it's almost practical.

Almost practical is right even the Tesla with the advanced battery will only get you about 300 miles then you have to plug it in and wait for a 80% quick charge.
If you calculate the cost of replacing the battery's Gas is still cheaper.

Depending where you live the "clean" electricity you are using for charging is produced by coal, also there are many small islands where electricity is still produced by diesel generators!

I wonder if they have a way to dispose of the worn out batteries in a way that is safe for the environment.

Where people live effects how they think and while the electrics may be a good city car for the ones who live " out there " it will remain the gas powered.car and trucks. As far as retro's future it will vary over time and is really not much different than cars of the past in that regard.
