It is a 65 series Steve. I believe the manual calls for either a 650 or750 cca, vented battery. I replaced mine with a Motorcraft after 9+ years.Suspect it being in the trunk, away from the heat sure helps.

Just go to your Ford dealer and they will give you the correct battery. My Ford dealer will match the price of any one else around.

I bought a Ford battery. Price was was similar in price to Advance Auto plus this way, I can know it is properly vented.

As biased as I am against Ford, I bought another motorcraft battery from the Ford dealer. Price was not a lot higher than Autozone, but the side vented motorcraft battery is a tight fit in the trunk and the first battery lasted 12 years, so why not! This time the OEM replacement is the only way to go.

Ain't never no time ever seen Ford give anything. They'd charge for air, if they could find a way. That said, I'm in favor of Ford replacement. I have Motorcraft in both my Merlot and my Ranger. Even with paying for the install (I was feeling lazy) on the Ranger, the price was still reasonable.

My experience with a local For dealer needs to be repeated here as a warning to you all.

My dealer did not have the exact battery that our Retro's call for. Without telling me they went ahead & attempted to install a larger, physically, battery.

When I came to pay for the battery & their courtesy install the writer told how much time it took to fit the battery & locating the proper bracket.

I calmly asked him to walk out to the car with me &; show me. There I lost my control, told him to remove what they had done & get my old battery back in to the car properly and to do it right now. He started to speak I told him to just be quiet, that I was on my way to speak to the service mgr.

With the old battery in the car I left thinking never to return to this dealer. The next day the service mgr. called to smooth things out offering a new battery, the correct battery, that he personally went & got from another dealership. It would be free. Would I please come back to allow him to do this for me.

I did go back. They installed the new battery. All went well until I got back home. I just had the feeling that I needed to check to see if the battery and the vent tube were properly attached.
The vent tube was just hanging, not connected to anything.

I have never been back to that dealership.

I purchased my bird with a AAA battery installed. Within a month, having learned about the OEM vented battery, I purchased battery from my local Ford Dealership -- requesting the battery designed for the T-Bird. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago when I learned for the first time that Ford installed a regular battery (no vent tube connect)! Am I understanding correctly that these "vented" batteries were discontinued? Perhaps it's a Washington State problem but like Mike, I'm not eager to return to my Ford Dealer either...

As of about a year ago the batteries were available at the Ford dealer for $119 - its same one used in the Lincoln LS.

Bellevue-K, you need to go to a Lincoln dealer with your Ford battery receipt. The ford dealer definitely installed the wrong battery. The correct motorcraft battery that fits in the Lincoln LS is the same as in our retro birds and is still available. It is a side vented battery.

If you need to replace the battery under warranty at a different dealer than you bought it you must have the receipt, I taped mine to the battery in case I need it on the road
