Satellite radio on 2005

What does it take to get satellite radio function to work on 2005? I presume that the "sat" button means satellite ready.

There was an unit that you could buy from Ford back in the day we put one in our car in 2005. It cost 300 dollars or so and is still in the trunk somewhere but when our new Kenwood stereo was installed they didn't remove it so I am not taking it out the wires go from the dash to trunk. Since our radio was messing up and I wanted a back up camera and gps I elected to get the Kenwood unit installed. Sirius told us at one point that the unit couldn't be updated for all the channels which was another reason to upgrade the radio.

Thank you. Which Kenwood did you buy, and can you send pic of the installation. That may be better option for me.

Ace, I logged in on my wife's computer since mine was running so slow. I think it is kenwood dnx893s, Since the Lincoln LS has the same dash they were able to install the unit the day I purchased it. You can google the unit and lots of information comes up. I will try to get some pictures on here. Crutchfield Electronics.com use to have everything one would need to add to the 2005 entertainment system for little money. When I added this to my 2005 all I needed came in their kit. It included a antenna which I have hidden inside the trunk lid liner, the correct wiring harnesses and the receiving unit that is so small it fits up under the dash behind the clove box. The kit of course includes all the instructions necessary plus the invite to call their hot line for assistance.

I have used Crutchfield's for many other items including our over the air TV instead of using cable TV. For me I am very pleased with their quality & service. You may want to contact them & learn what they may be able to do for you.

Yes I did. It is not difficult to do. You will need to remove the radio's mounting hardware to be able to move it forward to plug the ready made wiring into the backside of the radio. If you decide to go this route I'd be happy to walk you through it. Other alternatives are to take car to a audio shop.

I ordered the one that Ford sold at the time and had a local stereo store put it in. I’m on vacation so I don’t have the info with me. I did post about it on a thread earlier... a few years ago. It uses the original radio and simply added the circular antenna which I had them mount with double sided tape in the passenger side dash in the corner of the windshield...you don’t even see it unless you look for it. I did this three or four years ago, the original satellite adapter that could have been bought when these cars were new are still available if you want it.

Thank you Brian. it's the original satellite adapter that I'm looking for. My local Ford parts doesn't seem to know, or care, about it. I've talked to Crtutchfield and they no longer have adapter but they are going to try to source it for me.

I bought a Sirius Kit made for the T-Bird. It is the factory kit, I got it from S.P.L. Electronics out of St. Claire MO. It was not cheap ($337.00) but turns the factory stereo into a satellite radio. It also has an MP3 hookup in the glove box. I hook my iPhone up to it as well. I wanted everything to remain factory.

I'm half-way looking for a double din radio with Sirius and cameras too. I see that Best Buy has a variety of units available with free installation AND free re-installation of the original radio in the even you want to sell the car.

wow thats awesome i didnt know they had the re installation service. I have used them in the past and have been very happy with the service as well (not on the retrobird).
