I had an 84 turbo coupe, an 87 intercooled turbo coupe, a 90 super coupe , a 91 super coupe and a 95 V-8 Anniversary Addition. Liked all of them, wish I had the 87 back.

Enjoyed the article. A little bit of a Thunderbird history lesson.
Could this article be a look into the future, could a turbo T-Bird coming or maybe an electric?

Current twin-turbo V-6 engines started development in 1987 when Keith Duckworth moved from successful Formula-1/USAC DFV/DFX V-8 engine program to the then-new Formula 1 TT V-6 GBA engine. All Ford twin-turbo V-6 "Eco" engines as well as the engine in the current Ford GT came from this program. IF there is to be a "new" Thunderbird, chances are it will have a version of this engine.

We're lighter. We're faster. If that don't work, we're nastier.
              We're gonna make history.

Give me a naturally aspirated V8 any day (I'm just old school, I guess).

I bought my daughter a 1990 four cylinder Mustang and was very surprised at the performance and durability. I agree however that a 4 cylinder and T bird just don't match. The small V8 in the retro is an amazing engine to me and is as quick as many of the so-called muscle cars of the '60's

I've ridden in my son's Fusion with it's twin turbo. It really moved... when he needed it to. Saved us once from being pushed into a guardrail next to a major dropoff.

I certainly wouldn't mind that engine in a new Thunderbird.

I knew someone who had one of those Turbo Coupes with the intercooler and he loved that car. It must have been similar to the current Mustang with the 2.3 liter ecoboost which I've driven. It has lots of torque after the boost comes on but not like the SHO with the 3.5 liter V6 and the two turbos. Now that one is a torque monster from tip-in and all the way up the rev range. Right, Paul?

I had a 88 Turbo Coupe (also intercooled) that I wish I had never sold.

Yep, the SHO goes from 0 to 350 ft-lb of torque almost instantly and then is electronically limited at that point to save the rest of the drive train. Believe me, when I put the hammer down, I'm never thinking - sure wish I had a normally aspirated V-8. The only thing I wish is that the car weighed 1000 lbs less.

The only thing about a V-8 that can't be beat is the sound. Smaller engines can never compete in that parameter.

Only a V12 sounds better, especially when it's in a Ferrari.

I'm with you Jim. Especially with three twos or dual quads and a 4 speed with 4.11's. They don't run like modern engines but boy they feel good when beat on.
