So, could we say a Crown Victoria is unique, if it were a Porsche it would be a hard window Targa. The roof line is not at all like the 2 dr. sedans of those same years, but they didn't have the profile of a convertible which 2Dr. Hard Tops were supposed to simulate. Ron, you made Fords, help us, what are they?
Also, Merc and some GM brands made four door station wagons with no center post. Strange times.
2010 Explorer Limited Edition, tri color white, camel interior
2003 TBird black/saddle

They are unique and very cool looking. Always wanted one.

GM was actually the first American manufacturer to introduce hardtops, first through Cadillac in 1949...the other GM cars quickly followed (Olds would follow suit the same year). A hardtop is considered to be any car with a solid top and no "B" pillar. The same car with a "B" pillar would be considered a 2-door sedan (2nd photo).
Technically, doesn't the definition of a hardtop mean an open area from the windshield post to the rear roof line? The Crown Vic's doors didn't have a post, but the car didn't have the hardtop expanse.
Also, did the Crown Vic rear side windows retract? I don't remember.
Kind of a mixed breed.
The Crown Victoria was a hardtop with a crown. Made a beautiful car on the inside and out. The rear windows did roll down, but not straight down. They had to move rearward and down at the same time to clear the angle on crown. Watching a power window roll down on the rear of a Crown was fascinating. Growing up my family had all kinds of cars from Cadillacs to Studebakers and all in between. When I brought my five year old Crown Victoria home my Mother said that it was the most beautiful car our family had ever had.
