  • Convertible top rips inside well.

I noticed my (less than a year old) top, has developed rub marks, almost THROUGH the fabric. It’s happening on both sides of the car. It appears there are two long bolts in the covertible well, which have been rubbing the top to the point of almost making holes in it !

My convertible shop says “it looks like there should be a rubber cover over the bolt ends”. How nobody noticed this when the top was done is beyond me. This caused a tear where a screw anchors the top to the moving frame as well. There’s a metal insert through which the screw passes which has pulled out of the top.

Do I demand a new top (he feels he can patch it), and it’s below the body line.

He said “maybe we trim the bolts down”. Anyone done this ? Ever ?

In in any case, looking for thoughts from the forum. Not happy.

Did your old top have these rub marks / tears like on the new one ?

It would seem to me that IF this was something that caused by a design or engineering situation we all would be seeing something similar on our soft tops.
I'm thinking that few if any other soft tops are.
I'm thinking the replacement top was not correctly installed. I would not settle for patches, I would ask for a heavy discount on a new top.

I'm sure we all have these bolts...are they covered or protected ? Mine are not.. I suspect that should have been seen before. He said he's "done a bunch of these birds before"...
