The cooling breezes in October were so welcome! How I envied my friends who lived in houses with central air and heat.
Yea me 28 July 1949, so we are pretty close to same age. I grew up in No Air-Con down here. They had water coolers pre Air- Con days but the water coolers were mostly in stores. When I get in from work daily (in the heat all day) I stride into my house with my air conditioner blowing full. Keep it in low 60s as long as it will hold that low. When I go to bed at night I have to sleep under blankets. Feels good sleeping like this in dead summer. I stay inside as much as possible in the summer unless I am working.

I hear ya, James. My wife likes it really cool in here. I tell her that we could hang meat.

When I was a kid of about 9, my dad bought one single window unit, and we all slept in the same very large bedroom. That lasted about three weeks, and they got a couple more, one for their bedroom, and another for the dining room. We kept it cold enough to hang meat, too! Sleeping under blankets in July was quite the novelty. As cost of electricity (and our usage of it) went up, the temperature went up indoors a bit. But stepping outdoors was like opening the oven door. We made it to the garage, fired up the 1960 Dodge Dart Phoenix with factory a/c and made our way wherever. When the church installed central air and heat it was a happy day, too. Whenever I go back for a visit, it seems like it's even hotter. Seems like 5-7am are about the only comfortable times to be outside in the summer.

I remember as a kid sleeping on the floor for a couple hours until we cooled down enough to get into bed. Had central air on the first floor of house by the middle 70/s. I had to work in a shop that could reach 100 degrees until last year when I started working at an air conditioned shop (Carmax). That was nice. My house never had central ac but 2 window units. In our bedroom we keep it cooler (foam mattress makes it hotter) and the living room around 75 or a little under. Next summer I'm sticking a window ac in my shop.

Kids will face 90* plus for three days of school in a non-A/C school. Will make 'em tuff!

I once worked in a ladies ready-to-wear subsidiary of what became K-Mart. It was a warehouse supervisor's job. When the outside temp hit a certain point. the warehouse closed for the day. Everybody, except the front office folks, was sent home.

Then they relocated to a new, fully A/C warehouse.

Ford parts depot warehouse never closed, but there were a lot of overhead fans in the parts aisles..(Those were the days when they would announce the World Series score update over the PA system.)

One of the good things about living in the Midwest is getting to experience all four seasons ... love all four, but every year I get older I love a couple of them a little less! :)

Went in the Bird to the Mahoning County Ohio Fair. Largest County Fair in Ohio. ALso went early. Shared the grounds with 75,000 people in 90* heat. Heat and old legs made me and navigator give Toby Keith tickets to our local daughter. We happily baby sat in the A/C.

Grand babies have school this week in 90s with no A/C.

The down side of September is that our grandson has school tomorrow. No more daily visits building models, joking around, swimming in the afternoon.

It is a huge fair, but 75K on Monday is a bit of a stretch.

The inaugural Mahoning County Fair (better known as the Canfield Fair) originated in 1846 at the Canfield Fairgrounds after the Mahoning County Agricultural Society determined that there was a need to increase agricultural awareness in the area. It is the second largest fair in Ohio, following the Ohio State Fair, with an average attendance of 350,000 people in recent years at an average of 60,000 attendees a day. The Canfield Fair is the largest county fair in the state of Ohio.
