Wow guys, thanks for the almost 50% serious replies. About average. Seems like others have the same concern/problem.

Foam seems like a good alternative but expensive. Mike next time I'm in the area of the upholstery shop that did the mod to saddle leather I'll check about putting filler in.

Checked around garage shelves and the folded up hard top cover with "Allante " embroidered on it was stuffed in and really helped it to look better. Cadillac to the rescue. And thanks to all who had a serious suggestion.

Rusty, our annual NYC visit gets us to a rather expensive play and one for which we stand in the "discount ticket " line. Got to the front of the line and told that Katherine McPhee would not be performing that night so wife chose Kinky Boots. Like the majority of plays she drags me to I bitched and bitched. Really turned out to be one of the better Broadway shows I've ever seen.

Back to topic. The original owner of my bird had a piece of 1" thick foam mattress topper trim to fit under the boot. works great.

What do you do with this when the soft top is up? Do you store in the trunk along with the boot cover? Kind of cuts down on the trunk space, I would think.

Not really. As did the original owner, I roll the foam up with the soft boot and store both either in the top well or trunk. Just have to remember to take out of the well when you put the top down!

BillyL,. Can you post a pic of your ST boot cover rolled up? Love to see that. I fold mine in the same manner in which it was folded in the box from the factory when I took delivery of the car.
Maybe folding instead of rolling has kept mine from flatingflating out. Mine is fading from long days in the sun, but still holds it shape. Has some wrinkles too.

How are the factory boots intended to be stored? How does the velcro strap come into play? I've been folding the cover to hopefully keep the rigidity in it and in doing so, there's no way that strap fits to secure the thing.

When rolled tightly, the velcro strap will secure it to stay rolled and will fit snuggly in the recessed area in the back of the trunk. I never gave it a second thought as that was the way I found it in the car when I took delivery of it. I have not posted any pictures here, but will try to do so tomorrow.

I use foam under the boot of my Galaxie. The Galaxie top mechanism wraps around the sides, so I use a separate foam strip on each side.

Well, I can understand that the strap would be useable that way - but it just seems that rolling it will destroy the rigidity which I believe helps them to look like the photos posted above. Would appreciate seeing your photos of the factory boot cover rolled. Only ones I have ever seen were stored folded flat.

This is the boot that was shown on the Cashmere at the start of the thread. I roll all of mine this way, even my faded black one.

You guys worry about stuff that I guess I've never been all that concerned about. Not surprising that the fit might not be what it once was when it was new.

I store mine in the recessed area in the trunk of my cars just as Ron pictured above.

I think Ron used to have a part-time gig as a professional roller elsewhere...
