Gee Greg, guess I should have just said it currently looks like POS and hoping to improve the look before I decide to really let the hard boot go.

Now we know Rusty.............. I just rolled my custom soft top up and used the strap for the first time! It does protrude into the trunk slightly..but not bad.

Haven't got it all figured out yet but found a great use for those bags that collapsible or beach chairs come in. Fill 'em up and double 'em up and they fill the sides very nicely.

Got my eyes (right size) on the grandbaby's pack and play mattress for the center part. Granny doesn't know yet!

Looks a hechuva lot better already. Not McCloud quality but gettin' there.

In passing I note that the original cover I have looks a lot like Ron's though it is saddle color. I never noticed that it sagged. In fact, it is so padded that it is cumbersome to store. No way could it be shoved into the slot in the trunk. I keep a box of stuff like shop towels, tire gauges, gloves, spray cleaners, etc. in a plastic box in the space.

I have had over twenty factory soft boots and everyone would store this way. Not sure what you have.

No need for me to try to post a picture. This is how mine looks rolled and stuffed into that space in the trunk. It also unrolls and looks like the white one in the start of this posting when on the car. The 1" thick piece of foam only helps fill in under the top and cushions the boot when in use.

Did they even offer the OEM boot in saddle?

Gene as many know I had mine done in the saddle material that matches the '03 seats. When I saw the reference to a OEM saddle boot I was going to ask your question. Glad you did. Guessing it is a 'lighter '04-'05 material.

Good reminder as I've developed a small tear in a seat and was going to pull the remainder saddle material (scraps really) down and see about getting it to an upholstery shop. Pictures at 11:00.

Did go to a local junk store (Star Supply-a great store) and bought a much cheaper than retail piece of 2"x24"X48" piece of foam rubber to experiment with. Might have all winter to play with it as yesterday just might have been the last day of Ohio top down weather until MAy.

Today might be the day to play with fitting the foam piece under the boot. Does anyone have a good suggestion for attaching foam rubber to the under side of the boot? Hey Ted you are the leather worker extraordinaire , thoughts?

Get yourself a stitch ripper and cut the stitches out, place the foam inside the cover and then sit down and stitch it all back together. That's the way I'd do it.

Bought a stitch ripper when Greg Nelson and I bought monogrammed jackets for $10 from Dave Richards. Wow it worked well on a $10 jacket but a $200 custom boot. (with todays prices for boots on Ebay, what's it worth today?)

Got the tool but the nerve? Might have to wait 'til afternoon as I don't drink the liquid nerve stimulator in the morning. Pictures at 11:00.
