  • Daily Driver or Klassic Keeper

First off, please excuse the silly spelling.

Secondly, with the recent JD Powers report naming the '02 top in it's class, it occured to me that maybe the car performed so well because no-one is actually driving theirs...so...I'm just curious....how many birds here are arm candy, and how many earn their keep? My bird is a daily driver and though my daily driving is only about 9K a year, one of the main reasons I bought it was because it's fun to drive...the other reason of course was because it's a beautiful, comfortable, classic, American icon...okay, who am I kidding...the car is a chick magnet!

Care and upkeep of course increases, as do the risks of dings, dents, scrapes, curbings, parking pylons, collateral damage due to circumstances pertaining to a certain cocktail waitress and her ex-boyfriend...(just kidding) and all other inherent dangers that come with navigating a large city day in and day out, but if I have to spend 45 minutes to travel 15 miles of California Freeway, there's no car I'd rather do it in.

My car is a daily driver, it's the only car I own.

Princess goes out only on sunny dry days, usually on the weekend. I will drive her to the office on a Friday if the weather is going to cooperate. She spends nearly all of her time in a garage whether it be here or at work. She has been relaxing in the garage for over a week under her cover.

Delta, the 95, does the brunt of the daily commute and errands.

I put a lot of miles on a car (about 46 round trip to work each day) ..too many to put on the PCR. PLUS...hospital parking decks are not the best places to park! (see dings in my Odyssey doors!)

BUT..if I am going to get my hair done, or other errands that have safe parking, or if it's a sunny day, or if we're going to a local "car" thing (there are tons) then it's definitely the PCR.

              I love that car...

In New England most Birds are seasonal rides.

I was going to post a thread just like this, so thanks for beating me to it

I have a 93 tbird and an 04 tbird... was going to keep the 93 for my daily driver, but being a college student i can't afford all of that insurance and to upkeep two cars, especially since i paid for the 04 all by myself. So, I'm selling the 93 and using the 04 as my daily driver. Besides, I just can't go back to the 93 after driving the 04... the ride is just so damn smooth!

I drive mine on summer weekends and Thunderbird events. It is in the garage all winter. Is it just me or are the winters getting longer?

The solution is easy. Keep one for a driver during the nice weather and another in reserve for when it might be needed. Then have a few other cars for appropriate requirements. Life can be simple. It's just the approach that can be difficult.

Mine is a weekend cruiser. Road trip, vacation driving or Thunderbird events, a cruise in the evening with my wife for coffee or ice cream etc. It is sometimes driven every day, but it is not a daily driver. So, more than eye candy. I use it whenever it's TBird Time!

I drive my Tbird everyday. It is my only vehicle at the moment.
I was going to buy a little truck to drive occasionally. But thanks to the hurricanes from last year and now this year. I'm going to install vinyl on what little wood I have on the house and replace the gutters. Even if I had a second vehicle, it would be rare when I drove it instead of the bird.

I was in Atlanta today and came very close to having the whole left hand side of the car ripped off. A Honda moved into my lane - thank goodness no one was in the next lane and I could move over. Driving the car everyday just makes me a more careful driver. Ever watchful for what's going on around me.

I drive my T-Bird seasonnally from spring to fall, mostly on nice sunny days. It's not that I'm afraid the rain will do damage to it...no... It's just that rainy days don't let me enjoy the car and that I prefer to use my daily driver ( a '94 Chrysler Concorde), under these conditions. I prefer waiting on nicer days and not accumulate too many mileage on it and save the car for better occasions. On the other hand, my car is not a ''garage queen'' either...I drive it as much as I want and when I want...

Our T-Bird is a daily driver, my daily commute is about 95 miles round trip. I usually drive it four days a week to work and my El Camino the other day. If Donalee has a settlement conference to attend she will take the Bird, this is about once evey other week.
