My "03" is a daily driver for now, since I have to park it in the driveway anyway (garage is too full of tools, lawnmowers, dogs, cats, & crap), and I have secure parking at work, so I might as well drive her. Getting a new garage addition soon, though, and I plan to put her in "weekend driver' status and go back to driving my old Expedition. That'll make the wax jobs last a lot longer....

Our 02 Bird only comes out when it is sunny and clear. During the winter she sometimes sits in the garage for 5 to 6 weeks depending on road conditions. If the snow has melted and the salt has disappered she will come out for an airing. Wife loves the cool look of the portholes on the hardtop.

          Michael,

Instead of going into a long-winded story about my red leather boot cover (as I have in the past, as others will attest), suffice to say that the guy who made it for me was an incredible flake, and I couldn't honestly and with good conscience, recommend him to anyone. It took me months upon months to get it, and he destroyed my Ford factory boot cover in the process.

Anyway, others here have had similar, if not better, red leather soft top boot covers made. The best I've seen is this one, IMHO: http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/forum...oft+boot+cover

Read through this thread, look at the pictures, and if you still prefer mine, then get back at me, and I'll do my best to tell you more.

I really didn't pay much less than the first Noel, and I think his looks much better.

I drive mine every day, I love it, when I'm done driving the wheels off it I'll sell it and buy a used one from one of you guy's who just let it sit. I had another car up untill last month, but I just never drove it. So if a choice had to be made, I always drove the T-bird. And always will..

I`m really torn on this one. I really want my Tbird around me all the time but, I work so hard on week ends to detail her and then come Monday, back in the sun, etc., at work bird poop, etc. Mileage climbing fast, 4k in 2 1/2 months. So when all is said and done, yes, I wish I had a work car which would be 100% opposite of my bird, I don`t care squat about it getting dirty, scratched , etc.

FOOOR SUUUURE, not to mention a bunch of electrical outlet plugs for a microwave, t.v., blender, etc. That Mr. Homer sure knows what the average working man needs!

Richard, it would be interesting to know what problems, if any, you have had over the 82,000 miles. Is the engine holding up OK? any traces of oil burning? mileage you are getting on tires? Kind of tires you are using as replacements? Mileage you got on original brake pads Etc.

I think Claude is asking some very pertinent questions considering these cars are all fairly new. I "heard" ford cars are good till 75,000 and then it is all downhill.Dunno myself as this is my first Ford, ever. Long term reliability is still yet to be determined. I hope these questions Claude has asked recieve a response.

Also in general, is anyone having any fluid leaks (besides from brake fluid canister, I just tightned the heck out of the cap and mine and it stopped,,, I think) appearing under the car from where you park it each night?

                              Thanks

Using my few past Ford products as examples (89 Towncar/94 TBird), Id say that Ford's motors are very dependable for the long run, but the transmissions are the weak point.

As for other stuff, wear is wear.

I sold the Lincoln TC with 148,000 miles, and, except for the trans and a very expensive complete exhaust replacement, just normal wear/tear things went wrong.

Same for the 94 (128,000 miles and still running great and quiet), but the trans had to be rebuilt, and the rotors are absolute junk.

My last Ford, an 85 Turbcoupe, ran great (101,000 miles) until I wrecked it in an accident. The original brakes were changed at the 90,000 plus mark, the clutch/trans had never been touched, and the exhaust needed replacing at about 90,000 miles also.

But, on all my daily drivers (except the new cars), I change the oil/filter myself every 3,000 miles. (My 94 now uses a quart every 1,500 miles.)

I have no complaints with Fords.
