  • Re: Daily Driver or Klassic Keeper

    Hi there, I am new to this forum stuff and I think its cool! Since I have only had my bird about 35 days, and the weather in LAS VEGAS is almost always clear and sunny I take it out almost any time I want. I have had top down all last week-it was great weather!! But the week before I was feeling sorry for my other vehicle (my 1st love) my Yukon so I took her to work all week the week before. Both my babys are garage kept and I have a parking garage at work so we are parked in the shade (very important in the summer time here). I probably wont drive her in the rain, if I can help it mostly cause my Sand soft top will be hard to keep clean, not that we get that much rain here. But I am itching to get out cruising, out of town of course and I am overdue for a nice long cruise. If the weather would just mellow out and spring would arrive in the rest of the world, I would be headed for northern CA. I plan on using her just whenever I want, wherever I plan on going although I do admit I will try not to drive her into bad weather situations.I also recently realize while checking out this forum that I too am a "3rd bird" owner. I guess I never paid attention to it before but I have owned a 1978, 1980 and now my 2005 bird. I just love cars and am partial to classics!

      .....Daily Driver....just turned 57000km......just wondering how much time Ford spent on winter testing for our 'Birds.....We are just digging out of 'the Big One'.....and the 'Bird continues to marvel in it's ability to handle adverse situations.....all on the standard Pilots....It's a wonderfully well balanced car....although on it's 3rd winter, I was lulled into taking the top off, a couple of weeks ago, because I thought we had snuck through winter storm time..... the soft top endures well.....warm, draught free....even though, covered in snow!......so....Daily Driver and a Classic Keeper!

        Hi folks!!
        Our 02 Bird is still almost new and is a summer fair weather driver. Our winters are fairly short so we can enjoy long spring, summer, and fall seasons here in the Okanagan. It will be a daily cruiser as soon as the snow is gone and it warms up a bit. Just got home from a 2 month holiday in Waikiki Hawaii. Sure didn't see too many T-Birds over there. Just think, drive with the top down almost every day, no snow, a little rain, but lots of sunshine.
        Drive with pride.

            I relegated "Red Ryder" to Klassic Keeper statis a couple of months ago. She is approaching 50K but still looks like new. It is so much easier to keep in show condition by making her a garage queen. The only thing I worry about now is a dead battery.

              Hi Martin!!
              Yes, I hope to attend the show. I'll probably join the local Thunderbird club here. Look forward to meeting you.

                I enjoy driving my 03 MSG just about every day, but also have a Nissan Pathfinder to pull sailboats and shuttle Sea Scouts around. Lately with gas prices skyrocketing I have been deferring to the car that uses regular gas more often. I love driving my t-Bird, but these oil robbers sure make us pay for the luxury. The guilt of seeing it sit there makes me willing to pay whatever the gas pump demands.

                    Rick drive your Bird and save gas money.

                    Pathfinder= 15 mpg city 1000 mi = 66.7 gal @ $ 2.50 = 166.75

                    Bird =17 mpg city 1000 mi = 58.8 gal @ $ 2.70 = 158.76

                    So save $7.99 over every 1000 miles you drive the Bird

                      Think of it this way:

                      If regular is $1.00 and premium is $1.20, premium is 20 percent more than regular.

                      But if regular is $2.00 and premium is $2.20, premium is only 10 percent more than regular.

                      At $3.00 and $3.20, respectively, the difference drops to only 5 percent.

                      If you're going to pay high prices, go in style.

                            Being from the Windy City (nicknamed that for a reason), I keep her in the garage during winter, most of autumn, and most of spring. I plan to only put around 4000 miles per year on it. Also, with trunk space that's 6 inches high, it's hard to grocery shop with the T-Bird.

                              I drive mine every nice day there is..........Summer or Winter. It's a semi-daily driver. Since I recently had a heart transplant, I get to use a handicapped tag on my mirror. Those handicapped spaces are extra wide, so I don't have to worry too much about door dings.

                                I like to think of mine as a well-tended daily driver. She stays home when the weather's REALLY bad, though. The reliable ole' Expedition goes better through the heavy traffic and puddles.
