I usually only drive the Bird on sunny days--the rain spots the chrome too much!

Chris - Just for interest sake, do you love to do burnouts, drifting, etc. to test your limits and those of your Tbird?

Alex, thanks for your support, but it seems that the majority that posted today supported John. I guess more TBN members than I thought enjoy flogging the hell out of their Tbirds and getting rid of them when they are used up.

Claude...don't worry....I NEVER test the limits on mine (no clue as even how to 'burn rubber", and what the heck is 'drifting'?) And, shoot, JerryP doesn't even DRIVE his, so we're with you on the 'keep it nice' plan!

Actually, I think somewhere in the middle is nice...my ideal would be just to drive it when and where I want. My favorite being 'in caravan'.

And Jerry, just so you know, I'm not slamming you for not driving much, I know you get just as much enjoyment out of keeping it low mileage and nearly new as others get in really blowing it out.

It's all in what you want. No wrong. No right.

This is as fine example of male testosteronism as I have ever seen....2 guys trying to stay gentlemanly while sparring about a subject dear to their hearts (to burn or not to burn) and, of course, the egg-er on-ers, just GOT to add their 2 cents in !!

                I love it. hee hee....

Karyl, thanks for your support. I guess I got caught up in this because I do not believe in flogging these Tbirds to death. Why would you do that? They are not that kind of "toy". If you are really into "toys", get the kind of car that is meant for hard driving and is very fast like a Mercedes AMG, Jaguar R series, or BMW M series. But as you can see, the majority that responded seemed to feel the Birds or at least the components (engines, transmissions, tires etc.) were disposable.

I think you're off target here, Claude. I think the majority of Tbird owners are exactly opposite and baby the car...........actually, obsess over the car. I've never abused mine and never will. I take impeccable care of it, I don't want to turn it into something it isn't, but I do drive it and enjoy it as often as I can. Up until the end, I didn't think you and John were serious. I'm still not convinced John was. I sure wasn't.

Ray, maybe John was not serious, but he sure fooled me.

I think John was speaking figuratively, not literally, but Claude was definitely speaking literally, not figuratively. And actually, I was speaking literally with a figuratively spin on it. Who knows who was serious and who was kidding, sure was fun.

Re: Daily Driver or Klassic Keeper

I love my Bird & treat it with care. Yeah, I do get on it once in a while. It's a great driver. But there's a difference between thrashing a car & driving it at it's limits once in a while. I waited too long for this car to beat it. I've done my share of car flogging & I'm over it. My TBird means too much to me to thrash/trash it. I want to enjoy this car for as many years as the big guy upstairs lets me hang around. If someone wants to beat their car, that's their choice & their business. The way I see it the more Birds that get beat/trashed the more valuable good examples will become. So...Thrash On!!

Don, where were you yesterday when I needed some support? Like I said, I am also over the flogging car stage of my like, but like you I do like to "get on it" some. What's the sense in having a V8 with 280 HP if you are not going to use it every now and then?

also, serious or not (and I did think it was all in fun until the end) this was a pretty amusing thread! I enjoyed it.

(Jerry would disagree,) but I don't abuse my cars either. My foot just only knows how to go '80'....go figure. A girl's got to get excitement whereever she can in this day-to-day working world!
