Karyl see the video on Drifting. Really big in Calif with the younger Rice'r set

This started out as street racing but now is considered a legitimate sport just like drag racing's history .

You score points for the skill and duration of you drifts

    How to Drift

Drifting requires excellent car control and much practice. Though there are different styles of drifting, there are only a handful of techniques that will get your car sideways.

Here, we will refer to Best Motoring's Drift Bible featuring Keichi Tsuchiya(Drift King). In this classic video, he goes over 6 techniques that he uses to drift. The first 3 techniques are for those just starting out, while the last 3 are for the more advanced.
    • E-brake - Using the side e-brake to initiate the drift.
    • Shift Lock - By releasing the clutch, the rear tires will lock up and cause the tail to slide out.
    • Power Over - Powering out at the exit of a turn to swing the tail out for a drift
    • Braking - Using precise braking and shifting to initiate the drift w/o locking up the rear tires.
    • Feint - By feigning to the outside before turning into the corner, the weight of the car will shift quickly, whipping the tail of the car out during the turn.
    • Dynamic - Using throttle control to initiate a high speed drift

I waited too long for this car to beat it. I've done my share of car flogging & I'm over it. My TBird means too much to me to thrash/trash it. I want to enjoy this car for as many years as the big guy upstairs lets me hang around. If someone wants to beat their car, that's their choice & their business. The way I see it the more Birds that get beat/trashed the more valuable good examples will become. So...Thrash On!!

Right on Don, As a matter of fact, When I was coming home this evening from Mansfield, Ohio. I had a stretch of lonely open road, could not overcome the temptation, put the petal to the metal and WOWOHHHWWEEE she got up to 130 mph in no time flat! HOTDAMN!! The last time I drove a car that fast was in an AMC Hornet dragracer with 700 horsepower doing almost 130 mpg in the 1/4 mile.

Claude, I too take it easy on my cars. But every once awhile I'll get it on ("drive the hell out of it" so to speak), but the car needs to have the cobwebs blown out of it every now and then. Any car does.

Last of all, I just want to say how proud I am of Claude and John on the way they carried out their 'spat' on this thread. They were perfect gentlemen. I wish that all the other spats ended this way. Even the egg-er on-ers were great! Of which a certain acused me of.

Alex, according to some of the car magazine road tests 132 to 135 mph is about the top speed on a stock 280 HP bird so you almost made it. Did you have the hardtop on or not?

As most folks know, mine is a Keeper...I don't drive much in any vehicle. But I have to tell you a little story. We had a big pool party over the weekend, and most of the guests had not seen "Goldilocks" before. I provided photos...wasn't going to open the garage & take her cover off...(too many fingerprints, ya' know)...but one idiot, who obviously knows nothing about cars...ANY CARS!... after I explained about my "50th Anniversary Bird"...said, "So you've bought a new T-bird every year since 1955?" DUH!!!! (wow! I guess I started when I was 5 years old!!!) Where did I stash them?? I guess I've become an insufferable T-bird owner. I expect everyone to know the how & why, etc.!

whvt01 that's where it started on the streets.

Heck we used to do that on the old brick streets back in the 60's
                      just not so fancy

E-brake - Using the side e-brake to initiate the drift.

Pull it easy and hang it out there, pull it hard and do a 180

John - Drifting sounds like it's pretty hard on the car (brakes, tires etc.).
