Seriously? FORD has said they are stopping car production. There has been reports of the BIRD coming back numerous times, on many platforms, never seen it come to reality.
Here in CANADA as of October 17th they allowed a new type of entertainment, and I think that little enjoyment has fumigated its way into this story.
I think April 1st has arrived a little early
Someone needs to tell him that Ford and Mazda got a divorce. And the Miata is already spread thin making not-a-Mazda Fiat Spiders. And someone needs to tell him when he might possibly remember it. Also, that car in the rendering looks like crap. Way too much Miata spoiled by a touch of something someone thinks is Thunderbird.
The clip is two years old. It offers no credibility. And as soon as he mentioned "Miata", even before the picture was shown, I thought of the Fiat. I bought one of the very first 124 Spyders when introduced in 1968, and have been considering the new iteration as a replacement for my 'Bird when it goes to the Happy Hunting Grounds.
In answer to post #1:
I have not seen it, and I don't give much credence to what the guy has to say (I was, however, amused by the first comment posted on that link).
I test drove one of the new Fiatmazdas when they were first at the dealerships. It is really too small for an average size American man. I am 6 ft. tall and weigh around 220 pounds. I know I need to lose at least 20 pounds or more but even the shoulder room is inadequate and I'm not broad shouldered. The 2002-2005 Thunderbird seats fit me like a glove and not the OJ glove like the Fiat. The Fiat and the Mazda Miata are way too narrow. There was adequate leg room but my left arm seemed pinned against my body. Getting in and out was also not easy, not as low as a corvette but not what I'm looking for. If the Mustang is the only Ford car going forward, I think Ford could massage one into a respectable Thunderbird. A little softer and a little quieter and a slightly more posh interior would do it. Heck they took a Lincoln LS and made a Tbird, so it wouldn't be that hard.
Cal, I can relate. My boss about 10 years ago had a Miata. He drove us to lunch one day and I could barely fold myself into the passenger seat. I'm 6 ft 160lbs. We took my car anytime we went anywhere after that LOL. He liked riding in the Bird anyway.

. . . I could barely fold myself into the passenger seat.
We had one and it was a wonderful, fun automobile. However, I'm average size and getting on in years. I used to tell people that I made the same noises getting in and out of the Miata that I used to make in bed.
