Many, MANY years ago. I had a work project in Merced, Ca. Flew into San Fran, and rented a car. It was a red Miata. Interesting ride. Tight, but I'm only 5'10". Limited luggage room.

Met up with a co-worker back in San Fran and took the beautiful road trip in the Miata across the Golden Gate and up into the hills overlooking San Fran. Took a picture or two of the Miata with the bridge in the background, but those pics are lost forever.

Off topic, but I had another work project in Chico, CA.Took a side trip to the man-made Orville Dam. Amazing. Saw a large 4 prop engine seaplane on the water, the kind wit the wings attached to the upper fuselage. I had only seen planes like that in the movies.

Hoping for the best for those folks.

If Ford's cutting back on car production, what would the new Thunderbird be? A sporty pick up or SUV?

If a 4dr Mustang is even a possibility, who needs a TBird 2dr or 4dr?

And, what platform would they use? Jaguar's past history, so would they modify a model from the present SUV or Lincoln line and call it a TBird? (Please, no.)

I don't think they will ever bring back the TBird name. (Unless, and I'm halfway kidding, they develop a drone/car. ThunderBIRD name would be a perfect fit.)

I think Ford may consider developing some limited edition sedans in the future based on consumer driven models. I do recall my husband receiving an paid invite in the last 6 months to come and discuss what we might look for in a future car purchase. My 19 year old, a mustang lover and aspiring mechanical engineer, wanted to attend with the hubby but he accidentally erased the message off our phone answering system.

                What’s the word? Thunderbird!
How’s it sold? Good and cold.
                What’s the jive? Bird’s alive.
                What’s the price? Thirty twice.

I used to sell Thunderbird by the case. Enough that I knew the price, with discount, by rote. That and Swiss Up, Night Train, Wild Irish Rose . . . it was a high class liquor store.

I had a '55 Thunderbird. Six volt electrical system was a killer. I had a 91 Miata. It was the most fun car I have ever owned and I have had three BMW Cabrios and a Z3.
That said, the Thunderbird name does not conjure up a Miata type image. If somebody wants a Miata, go for it. A Thunderbird is a comfortable, personal car. Its joys are mostly in its visuals. I never had anybody tell me how beautiful the Miata was and the new one, while a neat little car and a dream on windy, country roads, is still a tight squeeze, noisy as hell and scary on the expressway especially when next to a semi. With the new generations of drivers I doubt we will ever see another Thunderbird especially in Miata clothing.

We had Ripple and Mad Dog. My customers would never touch Boones Farm. The other two never made it to PA.

Ain't gonna happen. Ford is doing away with all cars except for the Mustang in the up coming years. Nufe said.

I agree with you Spence. Especially with the stock price at half of what I sold my Ford stock for. The bird has flown the coop ..
