Has anybody had a problem with dash lights not working. It doesn't appear to be a fuse.

Yep, probably going to be the FEM.

How is that detected? Nothing on code reader.

I have. The short test will only show codes that are also on the instrument panel.

You need to interrogate or run a test on all the modules and then look for error codes. This test takes 5 or more minutes.

For instance code C1925 deals with an error in the FEM. In my case this error was the VAPS (Variable Assist Power Steering).
Hard steering when in slower speed.

I don't know if a cheap $20 OBDII reader do this. Mine costs $99.00

I have both shop manual and wiring diagram. It appears that the FEM would be the problem so I will call dealer today and get an estimate. It can't be all that expensive. Looks like a plug & play to me.

You should have better luck getting an FEM module for your 2004 Tbird.
2002 birds used two different types. I have the FEM type that is no longer available.
Find out if the module is available or back ordered.

Get one if you need it or not if you plan to keep the car for a while.

            P.S.
Keep the $50 core and have it repaired for $208. Sell it on Ebay for $500.

Great advice Hermann, I'm amazed by a comment that someone made (?) about these re-suppliers all have tons on PCMs but no FEMs available. We should all get to any recycle yard that has a Bird and pull the FEMs.

Spoke to the Allante guru (Dick Hussey--in Florida) when I was parting out an Allante to get his advice on just how extensive to do the parting out. Was surprised that the first words out of his mouth were to get anything that was a module as nobody will be making them. Sounds like good advice for us T-Bird owners.

                You are right Bill.

I need to go to confession after I hear about another wrecked Tbird. The first thing that my mind comes up with is, harvesting the FEM, REM and ECM modules.

You may be right, there may be wrecked Tbirds where only the ECM is harvested and the FEM and REMs are still there.
Calling the junkyard, will get you nowhere. They just check the computer. A visit would be in order if a Tbird is found in its final resting place.
If the drivers side kick panel is still in place, then the FEM is still there.

P.S. Another sad thing is, all the $50 FEM cores sent back to Ford probably went to the crusher.
