So that means if the governor dies its 154? And what happens when the lieutenant governor takes over?

146 for me, handles very nice, engine didn't seem to be straining at all. Since there weren't any other cars around for reference it didn't feel any different than 80 or 100.

We have very few roads that have little traffic. Some years back I was on one and passed a guy. What I didn’t notice was a tiny speck way ahead of me. The tiny speck was a trooper. Sure enough, I look in the mirror and he does a uturn after we pass. He asked how fast I was going. Told him that I didn’t know. Turned out that he didn’t know either but the guy I passed was doing 80 in a 50. Just as he was about to write me up, he had to respond to an urgent call. It was my lucky day.

Some of these high numbers just make me smile. I was an Ohio State Highway Patrolman in the late 60s. Remember that was when we were running the 428ci in the Fords. Clocked through a measured mile in pursuit mode at 156 mph. We were running an aircraft speed check on US 23 north of Columbus.

Have never been one to test the top-speed capability of cars I've owned - even as a teen...that choice was motivated by fear. It wasn't the speed that made me afraid; it was the sudden, unexpected stop.

Chickened out at 120 in Washington State on one of the straightest, hilliest Interstates back in 2009. It got to 100 so fast I backed off and after I passed over the next hill I could see for about a mile or more, ran it up to 120 then let it coast back down to 70mph. Good thing too, because when I went over the top of the next hill at 70 there was a Washington State Trooper with his radar gun pointed at the cars coming over that hill. I took a deep breath and said to Brian Metzger, my navigator. OMG what do you think 50 mph over the limit would mean, jail time? That was the last speed test I took in "Annie", my 2005.

Most of us car folks here have probably done stupid stuff as teenagers. 1964 when I read a Tom McCahill review that said top speed in my "57 Fairlane was 106mph. Remember it well, 102,103 and the damn thing started shaking like all parts were falling off. Yes pretty stupid!

My 2002 has hit 125 MPH it handled well. I was there real quick and back down. I pulled out one day with my 1995 Corvette and pushed it to 135 MPH and the thought ran threw my head what would happen if a dog or something ran out in front of me . I took my foot of the gas and slowed down. The computer shut my Honda 1800 Honda Goldwing down at 130. I guess age does that to you. what a difference age makes.

My Bird has never been over 80.

But, when I was a "yute" in 1965, age 22, I did get my Corvette up to 120 on the NJ Turnpike, and then I ran into a fog bank.

Having owned several muscle cars in the 60's, what impressed me about our cars is their acceleration and the quickness of the manual shift.
Also remember' rear end ratio plays a major roll in top end vs; 1/4 mile

Got my 02 up to 100 a time or two. Got my 14 Equus sedan up to 157 because I had read it
would go that fast when the governor would kick in, got there quick too. Now have Genesis G90
with same engine, but have not tried since to many cars on road.

Many years ago I had a 71 Cougar XR7 with a 351 Cobra Jet, that car would wind the speedo
past 120 and not break a sweat.
