This just might be the strangest T-Bird moment I've had in the almost 7 years of owing the Grey Ghost.
Have previously posted about a small (3 inch-where perf meets solid leather ) tear in the seat bottom of the driver's side . Not wanting to spend $300 to fix it soon I bought a seat pad from China that fits our seat remarkably well. Color match was bad so I followed my friend Ted Sturgeon's advise and took the cover and a 6 inch sq piece of material to the Tandy Leather store while in Columbus. They said it was vinyl not leather and couldn't be dyed. They recommended Tom's Auto Upholstery on Westerville road.
Walked into Tom's and the owner Regina is on the phone talking to someone about just how badly she needs the material that she has been waiting on for over a month. hangs up phone and says to me they have her over a barrel as that was the only location that she has been able to find that has what she needs... Dang feel sorry for her!
put my seat pad on the counter and she says that no it couldn't be dyed. Ask her if she could cover the pad if I supplied the material. put my material sample on the counter and she says, "OMG that looks like 2003 Thunderbird saddle material," Damn, I'm thinking this lady is really, really good. I go with her to the back of her shop and I'll be danged if there isn't a 2003 Black Bird sitting there. With SADDLE material. Show her where my small rip is. She seems to think she can fix it much cheaper than my previous quotes.
Discuss the fact that I bought a bolt of the material 5 years ago but cut out visors and convertible boot from it. Still have large pieces. Now she wants to know if I'd sell her the size piece she needs to get the Bird out of her shop. Knowing she needs it badly my 15 years of Real Estate Broker skills pop to the forefront. I'm finally able to negotiate the size she needs down to Zero Dollars. (Damn I'm good hey!) Will mail it Monday and she says she'll give me the deal of a lifetime if I bring the Bird to Columbus for repair.
She thinks God sent me specifically for her. Strange, strange, strange?
