  • climate control problem

I picked up my 03 today in Ct., and drove it home to Vt. . l noticed that the climate control is all over the place. Cold one minute hot the next. No good at all. Anyone have any ideas besides taking it to the dealer? l was thinking about rebooting the computer by disconnecting the battery for a while. Maybe low on coolant? Air in the system? BTW, within 2 hours of owning the car , a guy starts talking to me at a rest stop about the car! He asked how long I've had it. I said 2 hours LOL

The workshop manual outlines a self-test that is done using the control buttons. I don’t have a copy. Hope someone will chime in.

As far as the conversations with strangers, this is your new life.

Checking the a/c freon pressures is always a good start, but does not sound like your problem if blowing alternating cold and hot. The most common cause for our T-Birds is the "Dual Climate Control Valve" located under the hood on front lower passenger side. It is Motorcraft Part number YG-378. I had to replace mine earlier this year on my '04 PCR. I found the part on Amazon for $84.00. Also potential cause, but less common, is the A/C cabin temperature sensor ( located in cabin under dash over the gas pedal) motorcraft p/n 19C734.
Did you get maintenance records with the car? Hopefully previous owner has already replaced the A/C compressor and dryer. Good luck! Let us know what you find.
